I have a date!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was away on a overly-long vacation visiting family these past two weeks in Florida. One of the best things that happened while I was down there was my Dr's office called and scheduled a surgery date for July 30th! I am so excited that I got in in July. At the point I was at I was sure that I wasn't getting in until at least August. And since I am starting nursing school in September, I was worried about healing in time and being in tip top shape (recovery-wise) for clinicals. Also, while I was down there I lost 5 pounds- without even trying! This process has already started me in a mindset of recognizing fullness and attempting to eat only when hungry. A big part of the weight loss had to do with the unbearable humidity and heat and the fact that I was sharing a hotel room with my freezing anemic sister. Regardless I am going to take whatever weight loss is handed my way. I have NEVER come home from a vacation and not have put on weight. My finance even noticed the slight weight loss. Anyway, enough of my ramblings.....just wanted to share my excitement!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
