Is it possible for something to get stuck in the stoma and still actually be able to eat other foods? I ate a bagel the other day and haven't felt right since. Coincidence? I don't have any sliming or anything like that. Curious! Thanks for any help.:confused2:

Yes, it's possible.

Funny thing, you'll find greater weightloss when that happens. Let me explain. A food item that you eat that goes down and lingers...and lingers...and lingers.... you will get full faster and eat less.

This has happened to me a few times over the past year. Corn dogs! They do it everytime!

I remember the first instance this happened. I had a corn dog one day. Was full for the rest of the day and then the next day I didn't eat as much, but still ate. The 3rd day I drank alot of liquids and felt sick...woosie. I slimed up...the corn dog chunk! {the other foods went down}

Had a corn dog last month {forgot about what happened before} and the same thing happened. A day or so later I slimed it up.

So, it's possible it's taking a very, very long time to digets the bread. Either drink really fast to bring it up or just let a few more days pass to break it down.

Good luck!

As far as eating that bagel?? Yes, it was a moment of insanity - first bagel I had since my surgery in March. Yes, it definitely will be the last time too! I had my second fill two weeks ago and am still learning about being banded and adjusted because until the other day I didn't feel any different. I will return to mushies and my Protein Shakes for a few days and see if that helps. Thank you both for your words of wisdom.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
