First Fill No Go

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I am about 6 weeks out and went to the doc today for my first fill. I was all psyched up for it. He examined me and noted that since my weight loss was just over 20 lbs in the six week period, he would not fill me and just keep an eye on me. I have had quite a bit of belching and he suspects I may be too tight (reflux?). According to him, I only had 2 ccs put in my 10cc band at the time of surgery. In the meantime, he has scheduled me for an upper GI. and a quick return appointment. Has this happened to someone else? I am concerned because I am reading about others of you with 5 or more cc's in the band and not being too tight.

If you have lost twenty pounds in 6 weeks that is fabulous. My doctor say two pounds a week is good, it is also healthy. I would just schedule another fill in a few weeks so that you have an appointment ready if you need it. Are you still lossing weight right now?

Thank you, Paula. Yes, my weight loss continues. I have another appointment with the doctor in a couple of weeks.

If there is one message that has come across loud and clear to me in my support groups it is "do not compare yourself to others." Everyone responds differently and you cannot compare your fill amounts to anyone else's fill amounts.

My first fill is scheduled for July 7th!!!

Tammy--

I also belched a LOT after surg. I also had the 10cc APS band and I was concerned about it. They put 2cc in at the time of surg to "prime" the band. I was told that belching a lot after surg was common. It did finally stop. I got my first fill 8 weeks after banding. The bottom line is -- I think it's still too soon for you to worry about. Just give it more time.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
