anyone have a flipped port?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone out there has had a flipped port? I have felt "pulling" sensation with some tenderness at my port recently. I contacted the nurse at my SWL center and she suggests I make an appt to see the surgeon because that my port may be flipped. Has this been your experience if you have had one? How is it repaired? Does it require another surgery? (yikes!) thank you everyone!

I had surgery 4/10 and my port flipped. It hurt for weeks after surgery - I don't mean sore, but actually hurt - muscle ripping. I found out on 5/22 (1st fill scheduled) that it flipped. It was corrected this past Friday with outpatient surgery. I was under general anesthesia. It is so much better now - much better than the first time around. I just left my follow-up appointment with my doctor. All is looking well now. You can PM me if you have any questions.

Make sure they check you under fluoro before any operations happen. There were 2 nights after laying on my port side (I was 6 months out) that I felt a sharp "pulling" kind of pain. The Dr. initially thought I had a flipped port after one unsuccessful fill attempt under fluoro--but as it turned out the port had just tilted down to a funny angle. He can still access me quite easily (no digging around or multiple pricks) because he knows how to approach the port.

Try not to obsess/leap to conclusions and just take it step by step. Ask your Dr. to check it out.

My port flipped 4 months after I had my band placed. I had no knowledge it had flipped at all, no discomfort, no pulling, nothing. It was discovered when I went to get a fill and my doctor was unable to access my port. He did a flouro, and sure enough, it had flipped. The surgery was a very simple procedure and I was back to work the next day.

You're not dumb...I asked myself and my surgeon that after mine flipped. When he got in there to correct it he said one of the stitches had come undone, the other was still attached (he puts two stitches in?!)...anyway, he told me he put 4-5 in on my revision. I don't know if he just didn't stitch it right or what went wrong - he couldn't tell me. I'm just glad it is fixed!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
