Hi All,

I've been an "observer" of this site for quite sometime, love the support I'm seeing here, and hope that someone can offer some feedback to me now!

I've spent the last 6 months fulfilling the required documentation, consults, etc. as a prerequisite of my insurance, I now find myself facing a dilemma. I've lost some weight in the process, enough so that it has put me just a tad below the BMI considered necessary for WLS, though I still have the pre-existing comorbidities. Has anyone ever been turned down due to having lost "too much" weight in the process leading up to surgery?

I did not have the same experience as you, but I know that my Dr. put me on a plan before my surgery, and before I was approved I had lost about 20lbs. BMI is not the only factor that they consider when making the decision whether or not to cover your surgery. As long as you have the statement from your doctor stating the medical necessity of the surgery, and the other criteria I would go full steam ahead. Good Luck! :cursing:

My insurance clearly stated on it's web site that the initial weight (before the 6 months supervised diet) would be one that was used to approve the WLS. Check with your insurance and hopefully it will ease your mind. Congrats on the weight loss and good luck!

welcome to LBT. most insurances go by your starting weight. I would call and make sure. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
