I would like to ask everyone a question...I know that basically all of us have a story behind our weight...abuse, loss, emotions, etc. My question to you is after you were banded and lost significant weight, did anyone find themselves having to deal with pent up issues that came back up out of nowhere? I am not yet banded, but have a lot of issues that I know I hold down and I'm hoping they don't overwhelm me all at once if ever.

Everybody says everyone has a reason for there weight. I cant figure mine out, personally i think i eat because im bored! But i would deffenintly try to get everything under control and delt with before surgery. Surgery can bring on a whole nother chain of stresses and thats just not something you should add to your already emotional rollercoaster! You will be fine, take it one day at a time and always come back here for support! But no-one can make the decision for you! that was my problem, i just wished someone could have jumped in my head and told me yes or no! but i had my surgery Thursday, and i am an emotion person. I have always dealt with depression and such, but so far so good. i have great family support and this website helps alot. but head up!!!

Sure, I would imagine that's part of the process for everyone. My way of dealing with them was to overeat. I had to find a new way to deal with what was causing me to overeat in the first place. To think a person can get banded, lose weight and everything would be okay is not the case. It's a very emotional journey as well as physical.

I tried to anticipate some of the emotions before I had my surgery, and then I decided in advance how I would deal with them. Of course, there have been a few things that I didn't anticipate, but for the most part, my pre-planning has helped. I would encourage you to find a good counselor (perhaps the person who did/does your psych eval) that you can talk with if you need to after your surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
