Hi everyone,

I'm looking for feedback on fills. I realize that we are all very different but I am curious to know how much of a fill your doc is giving you. I go to my doc monthly and I receive 1/2 cc each time. I'm finally at 3cc and am 7 months out. I need more but the doc is not willing to budge. Thanks!:frown:

Has anyone gotten the MRSA infection from the hospital while having their WLS? If so, what was your outcome. Thanks!

My Dr has me come back every 2 weeks. 1st fill was 1.5cc, 2nd fill was 1cc, a week from Thurs I go back again & this time he will prolly only do a 1/2 cc. I had to talk him into 1cc for the 2nd fill he only wanted to do 1/2 then. He will let me continue to come back every 2 weeks unless I am steadily losing 2-3 lbs a week then he wont do anymore till I quit losing again. I would hate to only go monthly for 1/2 cc.

My 1st fill was thursday and my doc gave me 4cc's and I go back 7/3. I guess its really up to there discretion, I would hate having to go for .5cc's at a time I mean I only got filled on thursday but I kinda feel like I know I need more already.

Wow! and I've been complaining about only getting a 1cc fill. Why does your dr only give a 1/2cc......that's gotta be frustrating!

I was banded 04/08/08 with a 4 cc band. Got a 1.4cc fill on 05/24/08 and .8 cc's on 06/11/08. With a total of 2.2's now, I am pretty tight.

I heard it was common to give .5 cc's per fill with out floroscopy, so they don't overfill you.

That must be very frustrating, I probably would have found another fill doctor by now.

I'm also 7-8 months out and I have 8.5cc in my band. I don't understand why your dr won't give you more, otherwise how are you meant to get restriction?? I would be asking your dr why he is not giving you what most people have by now.

My dr started off by giving me 2cc, then 3cc, then 1cc, then .5cc for the rest since then. He said the reason they give smaller amounts after about 5-6cc is that they need to slowly track your restriction in case they over fill you. He said if they give you 2 or 3 cc to bring you to 8cc and you are too tight, they won't know how much to take out to bring you to your sweet spot. .5cc means you could be .2cc too much and that's easy to fix.

I hope you're not paying for each fill. My fills are part of the full cost for the first 12 months. Good luck with your next visit.

My doc has put in 3cc at each of my three fills. I have a 14cc band. I am almost to my sweet spot. One more fill should do it. I would be going crazy with only .5, but not sure what size band you have.

I got my 2nd fill about a week ago. I asked a few more questions this time as I was really confused on why everyone was getting their fills sooner then me. She has me go back every 6 weeks. And she said cause she dont want me in the red zone. I also asked her about the band I have and she told me this time how much she put in and what I had. I had 1.6 fill the first time this time I had 2.4. Not much of a difference. I do feel slight restriction when I eat. But still not tight enough ..I guess all Drs are different in what they think is right.

Thanks so much for this discussion. I had my first fill 1 1/2 weeks ago and I got 3cc. I feel like I've got a little restriction, but not close to enough. Plus I haven't really lost any weight at all (maybe 1/2 lbs.). I'm going to go back next week and see if I can get bumped up to 4 or 5 cc. I still feel like I've got a long way to go before I 'm at that "sweet spot" I keep hearing about.

She is ultra-conservative. It's frustrating because I've only just begun to feel any sort of restriction. She said that I have the band that will hold up to 4 cc's. I'm at 3cc. I feel pretty confident that with the band completely full, I will be where I need to be. I am just discouraged that I will have to wait another 2-3 months to get an adequate restriction. At my last appointment, she said that she is usually doing 1/4cc per visit. I have an appointment next week and if I can't talk her out of 1/4, sadly I'm going to have to look for a new doc. She's happy as can be with my weight loss. I'm down 40 of 79 pounds that I need to lose. HOWEVER, I lost 18 pounds on my own prior to surgery that they take credit for and I wasn't able to drink/eat for two weeks after being banded which resulted in another 10 pound loss. The way I see it, I've lost 12 pounds by being banded. So frustrating!!! Thanks again for the posts. The information has been super helpful.

I didn't realise you had a 4cc band, I thought it was a 10cc band like mine. 3cc in a 4cc band has to be pretty good restriction then. I can see why she is doing it slowly. I hope you find your sweet spot soon.

First fill was 2 months out = 3 cc

2nd fill was 5 months out = 1 cc

3rd fill was 7 months out = 1 cc

Doc filled my band during surgery to test for leaks and pulled it all back out except for about .5 cc. So all said and done I have about 5.5 in 10 cc band. He is not aggressive with his fills so I have never PBd, but I have adequate restriction. I wish it was a tad more, as I'm leveling off and feel like I need a bit more.

I was banded on May 15th with the Realize band, which is empty until the first fill. It holds 9 cc's.

I had my first fill last week (4 weeks after surgery), 3 cc's.

Second fill is scheduled for 2 weeks after the first one.

Third fill is scheduled for 2 weeks after the second one.

I have no idea how much they'll inject next week at my next fill. I have some restriction -- I feel full after an average sized meal -- still more than I should be able to eat, but I know I'm getting there!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
