Is this a Plateau?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was banded on 3/3/08 and have lost 36 pounds. By all means, I am not complaining, but in the last two weeks I have lost and regained the same pound several times. I just had my 2nd fill on 5/28 so my weight loss should be picking up, not slowing down.

I know for sure that I have been stressed and eating forbidden foods, and this is the reason. I just can't seem to get back on track. I have been eating a lot of chocolate, everyday. How do I get past this? Any advice for getting back on track? I am still working out 3-4 times per week, but even with the exercise nothing is happening. This is probably a good indicator of how sharply my calories have increased in the last 2 weeks. I'm feeling pretty sad about this. Any ideas?

Thanks,

evansmom

I am at an annoying plateau right now myself. I had gained weight from when I had an unfill because I went straight to the fast food drive threw every day. I gained 12 pounds in three weeks so back to the dr. I went to get a fill. I am at a good level now as I try to eat but after a couple of bites feel the stop button and have to wait. I noticed the best weight loss paterns was to go to 1200 calories for two weeks then bump it up for two weeks 1400 calories then back down. It does work but it is not easy when there is a day when the chocolate is calling your name................Darn chocolate. My downfall is chips I LOVE CHIPS>>>>>I have to talk myself out of eating them all the time. They are like Cig for me!! Darn chips^%$^&%^&

Good luck and keep the faith and your tool will be a success!!!

Girl your not the only one playing tug a war with the scale!!!! I get so annoyed with the scale but I have lost a lot more inches then weight. I can just tell in my face off of my Dr Lisc picture that I have lost a lot of inches. We just try to keep our eye on the price.......normal BMI range to be healthy and stay there. My goal is to be able to concentrate on more to life then what my next meal is going to be. Much more to life and now we hve the tool to help us gear our energy towards more to life. We feel better about ourselves makes us get out there and be us.....we are happier and it shows. That is what the tool is to help us regain.......US!!!

I was banded on 4/29 and had my first fill on 5/27. I had lost 25 pounds, but since my fill..not a single pund. It fluctuates on ounces, but that that scale has not budged. I started working out at Curves. I go after work 4 times a week. I'm sticking to my diet, eaqting as I should be , and still nothing. I feel your frustrations. I go back to the Dr. on Thursday, so hopefully I'll be getting fill #2 and we'll see what that does.

Maybe the second fill will do the trick. I have decided to go back for a third fill in a few weeks since I still don't feel restricted enough. Good luck and hang in there!

Hey everyone - What you're experiencing is normal. Our bodies tend to take a time out to readjust. Whenever this happens to me, if I've been following most of the rules most of the time, eventually I'll loose 2-4 pounds in one fell swoop. Then usually I'll bounce again. On another board we call this the "dead pound bounce". It seems it has to do it before we can get rid of it for good.

As far as getting back on the wagon goes, you're already exercising and now you have to accept that you've made some bad choices and move on. Start journaling your foods and if you choose to eat something you normally wouldn't, plan it in. It seems that if you make it a choice and not a compulsion you have control and that makes it easier to have the amount you choose instead of it choosing you. You also don't beat yourself up because you made an informed decision. This last weekend I went out to dinner with my DH and a couple of friends for our 24th anniversary. I ate lobster, steak, salad, a baked potatoe, a roll, and cheesecake. Now, did I eat the whole thing? LOL - I couldn't if I had wanted to. BUT - I did have butter and sour cream on my potatoe, dipped my lobster in butter and by the way did I mention I had some cheesecake? But the amounts I ate were tiny. I ate my steak/lobster first (about 1 oz of lobster and 2.5 oz of steak) and then tasted everything else. It was a wonderful dinner.< /p>

Now I'm not saying this because I think I'm so great. I'm saying this because I was happy with what I ate and I ate it while feeling in control because I decided this was what I was going to do. I learned a while back that the feeling of being out of control made me feel like I had failed. Choosing to do something left me in control and guilt free. We all have to live the rest of our lives with this way of life and we had better factor in that we are human. But isn't it great that we can live knowing if we eat that special something we aren't going to balloon up to where we were like someone stuck an air hose up our bums. Of course, that night I did dream that my son gained weight. LOL

So first thing is to ease up on yourself. Second is if you're going to weigh yourself (I weigh daily) is not to run your life by it because it will continually move up and down. Third is to journal. I've been on this journey for a year now and I still journal if for no other reason so that I can go back and evaluate things. Fourth, give yourself permisson to be human. This isn't a race and a year from now you'll be overwhelmed because you've lost a ton of weight and are wearing smaller clothes than you would have thought possible. Finally, take your measurements because during these times you are usually loosing inches.

Good luck on your journey.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
