:biggrin2: Hi everyone

I just joined the forum and I attended the weight loss seminar today. I wanted to introduce myself.

I am 45 years old and have three wonderful kids (almost grown) and a new amazing granddaughter.

I have tried many diets over the years but nothing has worked for me. I am partially disabled and have to walk with crutches due to injuries from a motorcycle accident in 1998.

I am just starting my journey and I am hoping to share my experiences with others that are having the lapband procedure. I hope to get to know as many people that I can and I will be sharing my experiences in my blog if you are interested to know the details of my journey.

I decided to have the lap band surgery because of my health and because both my parents passed away from complications caused by being over weight and not eating right. I, myself would like to stay around as long as I can to see my children get older and play with my grandkids.

My insurance said that the procedure is covered and when I mentioned my insurance company (Oxford Health) to the doctor he said that I should not have any problems being approved. My BMI is 49 which I was pretty shocked but I know I am on the right track to change that now.

I am hopeful that I can pass all the screenings and have the procedure soon. I know I am ready and will stay strong to do what it takes to get healthy again.

If anyone would like to know more about me, feel free to visit my profile and blog that I just updated.

I am happy to be here and I wish everyone the best. I will be looking forward to getting to know you and share your journey with you.

Katie

I was banded last year Aug 14th. I came upon this site pretty much by accident. I have been pretty much on my own. i have lost 50 lbs and still have another 50 to go. I thought I would get more support from True Results. Outside of the appointments for the fills I really haven't talked with anyone and I could use the support!! Cindi:unsure:

Hi again,

Thank you Cindi and JRT Mom!

The secretary called me today and I have my first appointment with a surgeon at Fairfield Bariatrics on July 3rd.

She said that they had verified by insurance and I am fully covered except for the usual deductables which I can swing.

I am very excited and things are going faster than I expected. I even received the information packet from Oxford Health today and it said that the surgery is covered and only the authorization by the surgeon is needed. I don't even have to see a psychiatrist! I am soooo happy!

Even everyone at my work is being very supportive. My kids and family are being supportive too.

I could not be happier. :biggrin2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
