So I went to the Cardiologist...

Recommended Posts

I had made an appointment with my cardiologist to get in to talk to him about what was going on with the heart procedure that hes sending me for and what was going on with the lap band and needless to say I discovered a few things.....My blood pressure was 150/100 which is very high for me, and that my PCP's scale is either very wrong or shes not reading it correctly when I weigh in because there was a 38 pound difference between what she had weighed me at on Friday the 6th and what the Cardiologist weighed me at on Tuesday and it wasnt to my benefit...So then the question became were they still going to be able to do the procedure since the doctor has a weight limit. I started freaking out that it was going to get cancelled and this has already been dragged out for 6 months on Cleveland Clinics end of things...so it was a huge relief when the Doctors office called me back and told me that despite the weight issue they were going to go ahead with surgery on the 16th..As for the lap band surgery I told him that I had to look for a different doctor due to not being able to afford the program fee at the office he had initially referred me to and I told him where I had found and he reassured me that they had a excellent program as well and gave me a copy of the original letter he had sent referring me for lap band surgery and I have my appointment with the new doctor on June 27th...Then a follow-up at the cardiologist on July 2nd and my last weigh in for the 6 month doctor supervised diet on July 3rd so things are finally starting to come together I hope..Due to the huge discrepency with the scales I elected to restart my ticker with the current weight from the cardiologist office and go from there..

Wow, a 38 pound difference in the scales? That's outrageous.... and I'm sure it was depressing for you. I'm sorry! But on the positive side, it does sound like things are really falling into place and you're getting closer and closer to your surgery date. That's great! Hang in there.... and good luck!

As far as the weight difference I was pretty sure that my PCP scale was wrong I just didnt know how far off it was..So that wasnt a huge shock to me..The one thing that did shock me was when I was talking to my dad he made the comment that he wishes that one of his doctors would have suggested the lap band to him...I was completely floored that my dad had even thought about it..I told him why don't you ask your doctor about it and he just said that his doctor would acknowledge what he said and continue on..When I talked to my mom later tonight she thinks that he might also be waiting to see what happens with me and my lap band journey.. I know he would benefit from it due to having issues with his blood pressure and diabetes so hopefully he will follow up with looking into it..Good luck with your journey :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
