driving home

Recommended Posts

You mean, right after the surgery or the next day? You aren't driving anywhere that day! I belive you would be impared under any country's laws. Some doctors don't want you to drive for several days.

Riding as passenger, is a different story :)

I drove myself home the day after surgery - 3.5 hours of driving. I did have my mom with me though so I could of stopped and switched drivers if need be.

Big T, you are too brave! I didn't drive for just under two weeks (but I had a little trouble during weeks 1 and 2, had help, and really didn't have to drive). Looking back on my day after surgery, I was pretty loopy. My sister kept asking me stuff...where's your ID? I don't know. Where did you put your money? I don't know. Do you have the boarding passes? I don't know. I thought I felt okay, but I wasn't!!! I wasn't putting my children in a 4 ton minivan with me behind the wheel at 50mph, or any speed!

Call a cab!

I had surgery at 7:30, had to be at hospital at 5:30, so I drove myself to the hospital, but my DH drove me home. Drove myself to the store on Wed. Doctor said not to drive for a week, but I didn't have any problems and I drive a SUV. My mom who is 73 had her surgery on a Thursday and drove on Sunday. I think it's up to the individual.

I drove myself home from the airport on day 3, a 6 hour flight followed by a 2 hour drive, and I was fine. I too had my mother along and could have had her drive if need be.

Well at least I wasn't on my Harley. That could have been a little dangerous, I would have pulled every stitch loose just sitting it to an upright position, darn thing's heavy. Gosh, I wish I could eat a cheeseburger, oh that would be soooo good. I'm still kicking myself for not having that as my last food before surgery.

Gee I wonder which one of us getting the better gas mileage?:rolleyes

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
