My docs orders are no carbonation for 1 year... That being said, I have slipped a couple times, okay 3 times to be exact. I don't think thats a cardinal sin to have 3 cokes in over 5 months.

wow, thanks so much for all the comments. altho, its kinda weird but i talked to my doc today and he said that as long as I was not having problems with gas, then diet soda was fine for me to drink (and I'm only 4 wks. out) so i don't know what to do, i guess i like my doc's response better, so i will drink my diet coke.

Dr's knows best however I would do extensive research about erosion of the band and see how that is caused...

I was a Diet Coke Freak! I kinda miss it - it was comforting, which is weird. What I miss more is BEER! I love me some microbrew!!!:P

I have had my Band for 2 yrs now and in those 2 years did not have a diet soda until a couple of weeks ago. It made me feel so much better! I could not get a burp out at all and would throw up a lot of what I ate.( spit it up in a large bubble of foam). I stayed at the same weight for a year or so and now my weight is starting to go down again. I never have overeaten and my blood sugar,(had diabetes )and blood pressure are now normal). I think mostly the Dr tells you that to see if you have any self discipline. I could be wrong but I believe so far it has helped me. Just my opinion and am happy with the 40 lbs I have lost. I am at 159 and feel great! My goal was for 150. 65 yr old.Venetia in GA.

I haven't missed them. My doc said not to drink them. I have a co-worker who drinks one a day but I'm not going to take any chances.:)

I have always been pepsi, MT Dew person!! love my caffine and i really think thats one reason i gain so much weight! I knew from the start that i would not be allowed to drink cokes again. Yea it sucks, but we all have worked too hard, and payed too much to let something like what we drink ruin our sucess! I have been off the cokes for about a month now. I drink a lot of Decaf tea, and gatorade and flavored water. I feel much better honestly. Plus it helps with "girl" problems if ya know what i meen. lol But i am trying really hard not to get bored with my drinks. I have not went out to eat in for ever becasue i have been on liquids, and such for so long! i dont really miss the specific foods, just the whole settings and going out fun. O well i know it will come back!!! I am only 6 days post opp, still on liquids!! Ready for some real food, MEAT!! lol but i do have a question since most restraunts use carbonated drinks, what should i order? Water? Since were not supposed to be drinking with meals anyways!! thats going to be hard!!

No sodas!! It expands your stomach...which is contradicting why you had the surgery in the first place! I like the balloon idea...that's a great analogy.

At first I had a couple of cravings for my diet coke but that has passed. Now Water tastes better to me than anything. PLUS I am not peeing every hour!

Well, I was banded in February. At the preop seminar I was told no carboonated sodas, diet or otherwise ever again. I was sad about this because diet coke and tea is all I ever drank. After my surgery, when I went for my 2 week checkup I told my Dr. how much I was missing my diet cokes. He just smiled and said, "that's fine, just let it sit for a little while till it is not fizzing, then sip it slowly, making sure you burp after every few sips before taking another sip and it will be FINE." I could have kissed him! So...it is now June and I have at least 1-3 diet cokes a day. I do it just like he told me and I am fine. Just had my third fill a week ago!

I definitely agree the theory that it seems to help lose weight. I notice that if I drink-or rather SIP- a diet coke about an hour before I eat, I am full and don't eat very much. I also don't think it will stretch out your pouch IF you wait till the fizz is gone and burp after every couple or few sips and go slow. The reason I say this is...I had a fill last week and he put too much in. I didn't realize it till I got home (2 hours away) and couldn't keep anything down. I fought with it - drinking/eating a few bites/vomiting for 2 days, then I went back to get some of the fill removed. He did an xray to check the band and he said it was PERFECT. He removed 2ccs of the 3ccs he had put in and now I am fine!

Even if he said it is okay you shouldn't be drinking 1 to 3 cokes a day. I wouldn't be surprised if you start having problems. Even if pop is diet/flat it is very acidic and STILL has some carbination. Bad idea IMO.:cursing:

Tomatos are acidic also. Do we give those up too? Any one on here that has had a band slippage or bursted pouch from diet soda? I doubt it. I like your DR. Sherry!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
