Last night I had my first dinner out. My family and friends took me out to Celebrate my birthday. Everyone there was already aware of what I did/what I am doing.

I chose a tapas restaurant so that I wouldn't be stuck with a meal I couldn't eat; tapas affords many choices of tiny dishes, easy to choose just what I want and share the plate once I get a taste.

About halfway through, my friend Roman* shows up. Roman and I have dated sort of randomly on and off for about 2 1/2 years with a lot of complicated garbage in between. Because of that, he has never met my family and very few of my friends. Suffice it to say, I was shocked to see him.

Anyway, he was there, sitting between me and my mom, getting along with everyone and socializing. We kept doing our thing, passing around plates and having a good time. He finally looks at me and says, "Something's different." I smiled and said I had lost 24 lbs (since consultation - ticker is since surgery). He said he noticed, and noticed that I wasn't eating much and asked me how I was doing it. I told him about the surgery and the changes I have made living with the band.

He looked at me and, for a half a second, I found I was a bit nervous of his reaction. He grinned from ear to ear and said he thought it was awesome.

I am pretty vocal about my decision to tell anyone who will listen about my choice to be banded. But telling a suitor/SO/romantic friend... that was definitely different.

I know there are a million threads out there on this very subject, but I wanted to share my first band confession in the dating sense.

Felicia, I'm glad to hear that he responded well. I respect your openness about it all. My choice was different...I have told very few people, and that's been right for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
