Hello everyone!

I had my upper GI today... It's been about 5 or 6 hours since I've had it and I'm starting to feel a bit blech in the stomach. Did anyone else feel this way? I've been drinking Water nonstop like they told me to because basically I want this crud out of my system.

Is it normal to feel sick afterwards? They didn't mention this to me.

Thanks, y'all!

SM

I felt icky in the tummy after mine too...kinda sluggish, not overely nauseaus (sp) but yet not quite right either lol. It will go away, I felt fine the next day so don't worry too much, it will pass!

Barium will do that to you. You should feel better the next day sometime. Wish you luck.

Yep, my stomach wasn't right for the rest of the evening. I even threw up (sorry TMI) as I was leaving the hospital right after the Upper GI.

You might want to take a stool softener like Dulcolax--barium is VERY constipating. I didn't take one, and got stopped up for three days.....when I finally went I was pooping little white bricks...man you coulda built a house with those things.....

Just to be encouraging to those who have not had an upper GI yet ... I had mine yesterday with no problems at all. Had some lemonade, some Water, took some dulcolax at night time as I usually do and had no problems. As with anything, it will pass (no pun intended).

Just wanted to come back one last time... I'm feeling fine. Things are "moving" along nicely, so to speak. I certainly didn't mean to scare anyone about the upper GI. It's not something I'd choose to do for fun, but certainly wasn't anything to worry about. Just another step in the journey to the band... :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
