Hey it's CollegeJoe and just wanted to say im still here and havent disappeared...just busy with classes but wanted to say that i got an appointment at NorthWestern Medical Center ....i was born there lol.... May 17!!! So that day i like to call Judgment Day because we will find out about it and IF insurance covers it. I'm under my mother's insurance which is Aetna PPO. SO hopefully everything will go alright...

AND the bad news is... well not for me really but that the Wish Center in Chicago was on fox news because it filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy!!!! i didnt believe it either! They were doing a segment of how they filed and some people may not be able to get their money back if they decided to late. So i will post here....and i always read what people are writing so ill ttyl!!!

CollegeJoe, I have to tell you that you may experience a problem with Aetna. When you are making your initial case for banding, try to get your doctor to list reasons why RNY is NOT acceptable to you. Aetna still prefers RNY over banding and will try to get you to go for the more drastic procedure. Of course I think they're nuts, but that's the way it is. Your doctor should try to come up with whatever reasons he can why banding is his medical preference for you. Your AGE would be a big one, I'd think.

Good luck!!

Sorry, what's RNY?

haha i hope my doctor (she) goes for it...she'll be like oh u dont need it just work out... i'd be like honey i'm at a 400 pound disadvantage ...please note i did take anti depressents at one point... so i can't see why i couldnt be banded...but it's good to know aetna may see this seriously enough to let me have surgery...

Rny is gastric bypass or one of the forms of. Good luck on your journey joe! Were all rooting for you. I wish I had the chance at your age. Just remember, its a long road..but you can do it. Make sure your doctor is on your side. Maybe bring your doctor some paperwork on the band verses gastric bypass?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
