Anyone have problems after flying?

Recommended Posts

I have just returned from a week long trip to spain (I live in the UK). I had terrible problems eating much for 3 or 4 days after each flight. It felt like I had severe restriction after the flight and could not manage much more than a few mouthfulls. I was PB'ing extremely badly after a couple of mouthfulls when I had not PB'd much at all before that.

I wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I am taking a 9 hour flight in August and am thinking of having an unfill before I go purely because it was so unpleasant.

On the upside, I didnt put on an ounce of weight!!!

i've flown between Germany and America twice now and had no problems. I did not have a lot of restriction then. Maybe if you have a lot of restriction it might make a difference? It will be interesting to see the other answers on this.

My doctors office warned me that flying can cause the band to tighten from swelling. Like your feet can get swollen on a plane, the same effect can cause your band to feel tighter. They gave me less of a fill because they new I was flying a few days later.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
