Thank you for the reply. I am not sure where he will do the fills. I think tthey said it was up to me. I need all the support I can get so I may drive down for a support meeting or two. Still in the stages where you are not sure of how things will work out. I would love to meet other banders though. I have two days left of the pre-diet and one day no food only Clear Liquids on Weds. I bought a case of broth so it will be nice and handy. Just wondering what to take along for food. I spose only iso drinks. I also was thinking some pillows for the trip home?

Are you staying overnight the day of surgery? I stayed overnight but not at the hospital I told Dr. Schmit I would get a motel and he said I could do that. I had my mom with me but I drove home the day after surgery. Take pillows though so you can lay down and rest. I took broth with me and got some sugar free popsicles but I was not hungry for a couple of days after surgery so I just tried to drink lots of Water. ALso take comfy clothes to wear home, Lots of women said they could not even wear a bra home but I am quite big chested so I wore one. hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I am staying at a motel. He asked me to stay in Bismarck so I said I would.

I kind of would hove liked to come home to my own bed but I am also

wanting to be close in case. I plan to take pillow and a blanket for the trip. Sweats were the fashion statement I plan on for that day. I am fairly big busted too so I will cross that bridge when the time comes.

I am sure if I wear a jacket no body will notice.

Thanks for the encouagement!!

Well, I am home and all went well they said. I have been running a slight temp and they say that is normal. I have some pain but mostly when I move up and down from chairs and bed. Staying close to my pain med bottle. I seem to have a fair amount of gas in my tummy. Is that normal?

can't imagine why. I have only had broth Jello and ISO drinks. I do feel hungry most of the time. Hope that goes away. I am sure a few days will make all the difference. I told my husband I am pissed at myself for letting my weight get so out of control I had to resort to such extremes but I guess it doesn't do any good to complain over that now. Obesity is such a hard thing to suffer from. Thanks to everyone for supporting me. I know this is going to be where I go for support more and more.

Hey, is anyone out there today from ND? I would like to know if there is a support group in ND. Maybe Bismarck? I know some folks have gotten together to support each other. Is this a formal meeting or is it an organized situation? Just banded on 1/19/96

Darlene,

Glad you are home now. The gas is very normal and will go away with time. If you get pain in your shoulders or collar bone area it is also from the gases they use to bloat you up during surgery. Mine lasted 2 weeks but I used a heating pad to help and lots of walking to help. I don't go to any support meetings but there are some in Bismarck...you should get a newsletter letting you know when they are. I get all my support right here. There are a few of us gals that get together when I go down to Bismarck for fills. When is your next appointment with Dr. Schmit? We will have to try to plan it where we will both be there the same day and then you can meet with all of us for dinner or what ever.

Actually I am feeling pretty good. Did a little light house work. Like laundry and such. Made some Soup for my hubby and I strained out the solid stuff for me. Then I watered it down with chicken broth. Trying to go a little easy on dairy and kind of ease into it.

You must be into motorcycles because of your name. Asphalt Angel sounds like a bike enthusiest. We(my husband) had a bike for years but sold it because he had such a bad back and could no longer really enjoy it. My step sister who lives in Bismarck and her husband have a couple of harleys and ride all the time.

Let me know when you get together. My appointment with Dr. Schmidt is on Feb 21. We want to go on a vacation to Arizona so I may have him wait until I get home for my first fill. I don't want any trouble while I am gone. Will have to wait and see what the man says. I like him. Didn't see much of him that day. He had several surgeries that day and was reuuning behind. He stuck his head in for a couple of min. I think he saw alot more of me than I did of him.LOL No kidding.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your support and reply. Would like to meet you.

Asphalt Angel is coming to town Feb 6 and we are going to dinner at Red Lobster 6:30pm (band friendly foods). If anyone wants to join us, please come. I need some major support right now - I've been stuck for 100 years - okay - maybe 3 months and need a kick in the rear. Celeste

I plan to come to the Lobster fest. My hubby and I are going to be on our way home from Fargo where our son lives. We will be towing a trailer but he says it won't be any problem so we will stop. He is wondering what he will do and I told him he can eat dinner too. He likes to visit Scheels so that might be an option too. I can't wait to meet others who have been banded. I am at two weeks yesterday and doing good. In fact I went back to my deep Water aerobics class ant the ymca this morning already. I teach it at least twice a week and I didn't have anyone to cover for me anymore. It felt great. Hope it kicks up my losses a little. See ya all Monday!!

Hi Cindy,

I'm glad to see you are doing well! How did your trip back to Mexico go? Was the recovery similar to the first surgery? I have only lost a total of 34 lbs so far, not that I'm complaining!! I have to get my butt in gear and get another fill, so far I have only had one. I still haven't gotten a bill from the first time, so I have no idea how much it cost. Well, have fun at Red Lobster, I am drooling now, Red Lobster is my absolute favorite!!! Keep up the good work, and happy birthday!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
