Hello everyone I am waiting to lose the 25 lbs required for surgery with Kaiser in Richmond CA. I've lost about 5 lbs so far. I weigh in tomorrow at my Bariatric lifestle class. Would love to hear about other people journey. Any suggestions at losing the 25 for surgery? Hope to hear from someone Mary:smile2:

I would suggest a modified Atkins or a South Beach type diet. The low carbs will shrink your liver for surgery and I have found both of them good diets to keep you from being hungry.

I have been on a horrible diet. Since March 6th I have lost almost 40 lbs.....now you want to know how??? I got a sinus infection the first of April and have lost all sense of taste. I get so excited and then bite into something and the most I can tell is salty and sweet but nothing beyond saying okay that was salty or that was sweet. I don't recommend it!!

Good luck on your weigh in!! Are you going through the rest of the process at the same time or are you not being allowed to go to the next step until you lose the 25?

Dear MaidMarion: Thanks for your reply. I went to my bariatric

lifestyle class yesterday, and I lost 8 lbs I was so happy. 17 more to go.

After I lose the 25 total then I see my nurse case manager and she

schedules me for my surgery I am going to have lap band. I'm sorry to hear

about your sinus infection. they are the worst. Get better, hope to

hear from you soon. Mary

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
