Newbie...help me get started

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I wanted to find out info on how to get the process started. So please tell me where to start. Thanks.

And just a little info about me. I'm Stacee, 26 and married with two beautiful girls. I have been heavy most of my life with decent weight loss around the age of 18. I've gained it all back plus. I am at my heaviest now which is about 235-240lbs. It makes be so sick to even think about. I'm not comfortable in clothing and I really want the weight off!

Do as much research as you can.. the lapband is only a tool and requires a life long commitment... Getting started - well call for a consultation - again this site provides many great doctors/clinics. My insurance denied my request because I did not meet the qualifications. My insurance has also become more strict in their requirements.. they want a year long doctor monitored diet, 5 year weight fluctuation, 100 lbs over weight and a BMI of 40.. needless to say I was a selfpay - so depending on whether or not you are paying yourself will also determine your next step... I would suggest research, call for a consult, start the insurance process and go from there... You could always call your insurance first to see what they require...good luck

Read Read Read! That is what I did and that is how I made my decision. I am in the same weight range that you are and I am very unhealthy and unhappy. I just had my consultation with my surgeon and then took about 24 hours to REALLY decide between the RNY and the Lap Band and finally opted for the band.

I have five children and at this point I am not ready to go for the more "dangerous" surgery. I would prefer to give the band a chance to help me. Remember, the thing I have read over and over is that the band will be a tool to help you lose. You play a big part in that process.

Good luck on your decision!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
