July 9th Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

Hello. My surgery is scheduled for July 9th.I'm terrified because I have never had surgery, so the idea of being put under anesthesia is frightening. Did anyone else go through the same thing?:smile2:

Well I have been under before and it's still scary. This surgery whether it's done on an out patient basis or not is a big deal. I can tell you though, you will not remember being put under. You drift off to sleep and then poof, you're in the recovery room.

Do you have someone who is going to be there with you when you wake up? My mom and I are not that close, but she is actually going to come be with me for my surgery and I am thankful for that.

Don't worry, we will all be here for you, so you can talk it through.

I am in the same boat as you. Going under is very scary for me. I always think of wants to come ( in a year or two) and it helps me not focus on all the scary stuff.

Just think of the wonderful outcome after surgery!!!! It will be so worth it and the risks are pretty low for lap band. Just remember to follow dr. instructions and all will be fine. I keep telling myself this is my last chance for weight loss and I need to think positive, be positive, and do what I am instructed and it will be a success and rewarding in the end!

I have had surgery one other time - tubal - and I remember how very scared I was. It is true you get in the or and are told to count and poof you are in the recovery room and it is all over. I am still scared about surgery but keep reminding myself that I have been through it before and everything was just fine.

I also keep trying to think of the good things that are to come. Good luck. Keep reading the boards they have been helping me a lot. :behindsofa:

My date is the 9th too. I'm excited & I know this is the right thing for me...

BUT

I'm also starting to get nervous.

I think the nerves are just natural for us when we are getting ready for any type of surgical procedure. Stay positive and try keeping yourself busy with other things so you don't think too much about the surgery.

Good Morning all you July 9th Bandsters! Today is our day!!!! I just wanted to mention that even though I am nervous about surgery, being put under is GREAT. You'll actually go to the hospital and once your IV is in, they will give you Versed to relax you. Trust me, when they wheel you into the operating room you aren't going to care or be nervous. I've been put to sleep 3 other times and it's a breeze. I know that the hardest part of the surgery for my nerves is going to be the first few minutes at the hospital.

WOO HOO for us all! Today is the first day of our new life!!

I was banded July 9th too and I have a list of things I am going through. Is anyone else going through the same things?

1. Im feeling depressed - This morning I took my mom to the train station for her to go back home to NJ. Then I came home and then Im sad as hell and keep crying for nothing. Is it my hormones?

2. Dreams- right after surgery when I got to my room. I took a nap and then I started having dreams about food I knew I couldn't have like cheeseburgers, pizza, fried chicken. The mind is a powerful thing.

3. A yeast infection - I was hooked up to Ciprofloxin the whole time I was in the hospital. And now this morning, I start noticing an itchy feeling down there. I have a refill for diflucin but, I'm not sure if it will interact with other meds I take, so I'm going to call Dr. in the morning.

4. Lump in Throat - 4 days later and I wake up with a sore lump in the top of the back of my throat. Is this morning.

5. Work - Tomorrow is Monday and I suppose to go back to work. But I don't feel comfortable enough to go. My body just dont feel right after surgery. I am moving even slower than before. I have a sit down job though. I was thinking maybe I should go in for a few hours. Or just work from home for the next 2 days. Also, my sleep schedule is off. Ive been doing most of my sleeping during the day time.

4. C-pap - I use the c-pap about 2 hours a night. I suppose to use it the whole night. I think my setting are too high for me. It's hard for me to get on the same breathing track as the machine. And then once I get sleep I wake up in 2 hours sweating and I take it off.

5. Driving - One trip to the store and not too far away is enough to tire one out after surgery. And you will need to take a pillow every time you get in the car.

6. Diahrrea - It seems like every time I drink something besides Water, I have to go to the bathroom #2. When will this stop?

I hope I didn't scare you or anything with my update. Hang in There!

I just noticed you are not far from me. Which doctor are you using?

Sorry for the late reply. My surgeon is Dr Kevin Reavis with UC Irvine Medical Cener. :cursing:

Thanks for all the well-wishes everyone. I am back at home and recovering. The first 3-4 days were awful, but I'm doing better. :cursing:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
