Questions for Initial Consultation

Recommended Posts

Hello All...

I have just received my letter from the surgeon notifying me that I qualify to have the lap band done. My initial consulation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10th and it is 3 hours long in a group setting. We are asked to bring in any questions that we may have. This is the first surgery of my life; therefore, I really don't know what to expect. Does anyone have a list of possible questions regarding this precedure that I can ask? During this consultation, I will get to meet he surgeon. Thanks for any questions that you can offer....

Usually, anything you want to ask will be covered. The surgeon will advise on everything that is needed and what will need to be done.

Good Luck on your lapband journey!

This is my first reply. Best wishes. I made my initial appointment today and am just getting started in the considering phase. My consult is May 27th. I would love to keep in touch so we can compare notes. I've had several operations. When I had my tubes tied 18 years ago it was done laproscopically and it was simple. I was just a little uncomfortable for a couple of days. From what I have read, this procedure is much like. If that is true, the worst part is the IV. Take care!

A really important question is how many lapband surgeries has the surgeon performed. Another one of mine was how their fill appts went with insurance etc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
