Taking care of me for a change!!

Recommended Posts

Hi...I am being banded May 20th and am more worried about going to a big fancy wedding 4 weeks after surgery! There will be lots of food, drinks, family anxiety, etc. And this morning I solved all my problems!! I told my adult dd that I would skip the reception and go to the hotel with the little ones!! Much less stress for full liquids and all the social and family pressures. WHAT a relief. It sure feels good to take a step for me for a change!! ChristyC

Christy, I'm not banded yet either but I already worry about some of those social situations the few months after my surgery on June 17. We have a few weddings, a couple of BBQ's and numerous potlucks at our summer resort. I have told some closer friends of my soon-to-be banding but feel that I will need to make excuses to others that don't know. Where there's a will, there's a way (or a little white lie).

Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I wish you well

Hey ChristyC....that's me too, ChristyC!

I don't have a date yet as I am still in the "looking" stage, but I am pretty sure I am going to do it. I have my consultation on May 27th. With the Doctor and hopefully psycologist as the center is 2 hours away. Good thing they have a post-op clinic only 45mins. away. Anyway, when I think about it, I am so focused on food, like a drug, that those social occasions are going to be a challange for me too. I don't know anyone who has had the lap band, only the stapling procedure and although they both have gained, they are not as big as they once were are look a whole lot better. I also worry about traveling abroad. I like to go diving in Mexico and I understand that there will be no issues with the band and diving, but, we do a lot of eating and drinking when we are down there. I guess looking and feeling better will become more important to me, also, it will be nice not to have to wear 2x as much weight on my weight belt as everyone else. Best wishes on your surgery and the wedding.

I LOVE swimming and the Water too!! That is what I visualize when upset or drifting off for surgery...must be part fish. I am excited, what in the heck is the Central Coast? I live on the North coast...know where that is? LOL

Good luck with your research, hope you decide soon. ChristyC

my suggestion is to have a bottle of Water in your hands. this always works for me. I went to big family christmas after my band. I actually sat their watching people gorge themselves thinking thank god i am no longer a slave to food.< /p>

good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
