Hi all,

Just hoping to find someone else in Oregon.

Thanks!

I am in Central Oregon...though from your name...it would sound like you are on the coast!

Hi, I am in Portland and am just starting the research for dr. Went to oHSU seminar this week and was shocked that they charge $25-30K for lapband. My insurance won't pay, so that set me back a bit. How much was Dr. Neal, if you don't mind my asking?

17000 and that covers everything including ANY problems that you would have in the following 2 years. He covers ALL the bills for any complications...you would never have an out of pocket expense. It also covers fills for 2 years (but to be honest they don't charge even after 2 years) and all fills are done under fluoro. I can't say enough good things about him and his staff. They are wonderful people!

Hi! I am located in Maupin, Oregon on the Deschutes River about 100 miles north of Bend. I am scheduled for Lap Band on June 17, in Tijuana, Mexico for $7,500.00. Kerry

I have an appointment with my family Dr. on Monday the 19th. She doesn't know of this decision yet, and I'm struggeling with how to brake it to her. I came to the decission after a co worker traveled to Mexico last summer with her sister to have th surgery. And, the cost was a factor. $7,500.00 vs possible $30 in the states. I am going to the same Dr. as my friends(Dr. Pedro Kuri) and I have read, read, read everything about him. I don't have any regrets with my decission, but the waiting until June 17 is KILLING me! There is a bariatric surgeon in Bend, but I have not heard great things about them. I go to their support group because I have a friend that was banded by them. I am not sure if they would follow up with you or not after being banded by Dr. Kuri, but I do know that Dr. Neal in Olympia, WA does. I am not certain how expensive the fills are with him though because they do them under fluro. However they are fantastic people!

I do have a fill dr that is going to see me in Portland Oregon, but that is 100 miles, as is Bend, so I am o.k. there, I am just a bit nervous of who will care for me if I have an emergency situation. I guess my family Dr. will let me know on Monday. Kerry

The biggest emergency that would happen is if you need an emergency unfill. Since I live so far from my doctor my fill nurse gave me the special needle and told me to keep it some place safe so that if I needed an unfill I could take it in to the emergency room. If you ever have to do that ask for a chemo nurse to do the unfil. They are familiar with ports.

Had my surgery on May 2, 2008 and have lost about 44 pounds already. Had surgury and Emmanual Good Samaritan by the Oregon Weight Loss Surgery team and would highly recommend them to anyone. Incidently have heard that they are the only ones in the entire state of Oregon that Medicare will pay for. That's something to think about.

What dr. in portland are you using? I am scheduled for surgery in Denver in August and can't afford to return for fills or followups. There is a Fill USA in Salem, but seeing someone right in town would be great!

I went to Dr. Emma Patterson from Oregon Weight Loss Center at Good Samaritan. I have had nothing but a good experiance ...my only complaint however is they are so busy schedualing can be a major issue. However, they did just bring in another Doctor ( Dr. Halpin) and she is very nice aswell. It is cheaper to go to Good Sam I think my surgery was 8,900 not including hospital stay and preliminary tests they make you do .....best of luck ! It has been the best decision I have ever made!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
