Denied an Frustrated!!

Recommended Posts

I called my insurance this morning to check the status on my file, and they told me a denial letter was sent out this morning. They said it was denied because my 6 month supervised diet was not consecutive. WTH?!?! I KNOW it was. I had doctor office visits along with 1 year of Weight Watchers, which I was told would work as my six months alone. They said I only submitted May 07, June 07, August 07 and December 07. Now I can't get the insurance person to call me back so I can argue, and the lady at the surgeons office(who submitted everything) won't call me back either. I have everything, I kept copies - and I;'m not missing anything!:wink2:

I'm waiting on approval from my insurance company AND I'm in Tyler TX also.

My paperwork was submitted 5/5 but I can't get anymore on the status except pending :wink2:.

You'll have to re-submit ASAP. I had another friend here who was denied but resubmitted and was approved in 3 days.

When I do finish my 6 month diet my doc's office said they would fax all my stuff to the insurance and the insurance would fax my approval letter back within a few hours or a day. Why does everyone elses take so long? I can't wait until october.

I understand your whole frustration with this process. After I went to my siminar I was told that my insurance would cover my surgery if I did a 6-month diet. So I went every month to Houston and did my classes, kept up with my menus, everything they wanted me to do. After I got done, I went to see the surgeon and they told me that I have a clause in my insurance that would not cover the surgery, and I would have to self-pay. So all of the work was for nothing. Turns out the guy did tell me wrong from the beginning and now they want me to pay for the diet done at the hospital, even though I did it because they told me I was covered. Now I am a self-pay and waiting on my surgery date. Just keep trying and appeal every chance you get and in the end when you have your surgery it will all be worth it. Good luck to you.

mtanna - who is your surgeon???

I'm using Charles Beall MD, he did my DH surgery last May.

Froggi - I wish I knew why it took so long. My file was at insurance for 2 weeks, and when I called to check on it the first time - they couldn't find it. My surgeons office had to re-fax everything. Now inurance has had my file for over three weeks.

Hey MyTurn....

I'm going to Dallas to have mine done. Dr. Benavides with LapBand Solutions. I'm pretty much a chicken poop when it comes to surgery since this will be my first since my tonsils were taken out when I was 5 years old. I wanted someone with a LOT of experience.... However, I will be honest and say I've heard a lot of good things about the drs (all over) doing these procedures.

Do you have Cigna??

No, I have FiserV through Mother Frances Hospital. I spoke to them yesterday, and they told me I have to wait the rest of the six months. I guess I'm looking at late August, early September. Pooh. At least it's happening, I just have to be patient.

As weird as this sounds and I can't believe I'm saying.... The 6 months go by really, really, fast. Since you have most of it done, the rest will be a breeze.

The WAITING for approval is what's so nerve wracking.... Hang in there, don't get down!!

I was denied in April and have been depressed since then. They said that I didn't have any viable co-morbidities, HELLO ISN'T OBESITY A DANG COMORBIDITY!!!!! I have joined weight watchers and I am hopeful that I can get this weight off, I am so tired of looking and feeling like I have been feeling. Best of luck to all of you out there, I hope you get what you all want!!!

I'm having the same problem! Everything was submitted on 5/5 and is still pending in Nurse Review. I was told by the insurance company that it takes 15 business days!!!! I have Anthem BC/BS PPO.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
