Please Help!! 2 Weeks PRE-OP!!

Recommended Posts

I could really use some advice MayFlowers!

Last Wednesday 5/7; I went to my PCP about a small itchy, red, bumpy rash that started under my armpits. His diagnoses: some sort of Skin Fungi and put me on Diflucan. Well, it has now spread all over my body!! I itch from head to toe!! I've called my PCP 3 times. He finally called in Prednisone, which just stops me from taking a knife and scratching my skin off - but I'm still itchy!!

Anyway... my question is this, should I go back to my PCP tomorrow and let him continue treating me, or should I contact my surgeon and see what he thinks. I'm afraid to let my surgeon know because of the obvious, I don't want my surgery postponed - I am scheduled May 27th, and start the 2 week liquid diet on Tuesday.

Please Help... I'm sure my anxiety is not helping matters either. I'm not trying to be stupid, of course I want to be totally healthy. If I can't get rid of it in a few more days I'll have to let the surgeon know. I'm just asking for advice. Thank you

Hi Jack - I guess I should have stressed it's not the contagious kind.. I don't seem to be getting a lot of responses :).

I did go back to my PCP. I was seen by two other doctors, they both thought it was an allergic reaction to a medication/food/plant but can't pinpoint where it came from. So.. I'm now on very high dose of antibiotics and something else for the itching. They said to give it until Thursday, if not better, I'm going to a Dermatologist!

Wish me luck!! :wink2:

Hi Seattlelight!

Sounds horrible! :) I had a similar problem earlier this year, except I was getting hives all over my body. Went to a dermatologist and was treated for a few months first with prednisone (sp?) and then with different types of antihystamines. He also suggested a WONDERFUL anti-itch cream called Sarna. You get it at the drug store. What is wonderful is that it offered me relief from the itching. Trust me - run right out NOW and buy it!!! The relief was almost immediate!

Good luck and let us know how you are feeling!

Terri

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
