Realize band...first fill...how much...

Recommended Posts

I also had a realize band placed on 4/23/2008. I just had my first fill last week (5 weeks post op) and my sugeon put in 4 cc. I have some restriction now, but not enough. I can still eat too much at one sitting and I get hungry within 3 hours after eating. Don't be afraid!

I got the Realize Band on 4/29/08. I just got my first fill on 6/4/08 (it was delayed a week past the doc's normal 4 week mark because they were out of town at a conference). I got 6cc on my first fill! But they did it under fluoro and went in very slowly and it took that much to show any restriction on the Barium at all. I am just up to soft foods today on my post-fill diet and I haven't noticed much difference when eating, but I do notice a big difference in drinking Water. If I take a couple swallows together, I have to wait a minute before drinking any more to give it time for that pressure in my chest to lessen. And each time I drink (which I tend to do in bigger swallows and quickly, which I'm trying to slow down), I feel a strange pressure that feels like I am swallowing a bit of air with the liquid. It's not really a pain, more of a pressure, like I'm going to have to burp once the liquid goes down. I usually don't burp though. The feeling passes after a few seconds. Is this considered good restriction? I figure after a couple more days and once I try regular foods I will have a good idea if it is or not!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
