May 6th Banded-First Week Question

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had my surgery at Clovis, CA/Dr. Higa. All went Great, very little discomfort.

I have only one problem. I was told to take Milk of Mag for Constipation. They said, I need to have some gas and BM, to let them know all is working properly. The Milk of Mag hasn't worked. I took it last night. My husband said, dont take any more.

I have been on a clear liquid diet, and am not hungry. I have no pain.

Does any one have any advice. I called my Dr's office, but no one was in and I hate to call the Dr at home if I don't need to. Does anyone have there solution handy?

Thanks and I am so happy and grateful for this Band and the hope it has given me.

I was banded May 8th and I am having some gas discomfort. Have not had a BM yet. The last time I ate solid food was Tuesday, May 6th, and my last BM was Wednesday, May 7th. I spoke to my doctor yesterday and he said if I didn't have a BM by Tuesday, then we might have to do an enema, but he said a few days is nothing to worry about, especially after moving to an all liquid diet. Best talk to your surgeon, but I wouldn't be really concerned about it. I'm still on the Clear liquids and not hungry at all. Actually, I become like stuffed (like I just ate at a buffet or something) after drinking 1/3 serving of Protein shake.

I had 1/2 of a sugar-free popsicle for lunch and it was delicious. Passing gas, the very rare times I can, is such a blessing. It relieves a great deal of the pressure. But it happens maybe once every eight hours or so.

Hi Nicole8wing

Thank you for your reply. I haven't had any problem with gas yet. I read, I think here on the Forum, that Protein powder may be a cause if it is milk based. Anyway, I was put on clear liquids only. Like you, I feel very satisfied and even to full if I don't watch it.

If I would have read your post first I wouldn't have taken more Milk ofMag..I didn't take as much and maybe I won't cramp to much.

It will also depend on how much narcotics you took after surgery. They slow parastalsis down. Can take up to 24hrs after last take to get things going. I took a 1/2 dose of MOM on night of post-op day 2. That got my gas going and then I had like 6 watery stools from the CL diet. I'm now 5days post-op and only have bad gas.

I was banded on 5/9 and have not had any gas problems but just had my first BM today. My drs office suggested that I get Phillips stool softner. I did not get a chance to go out and get any before I had my first session (if you know what I mean!) I would strongly encourage you to invest in a stool softner asap!!!

Ooooo, I didn't know the narcotics had anything to do with it. No wonder I haven't been to the restroom. While I was having severe gas pains this week, I was taking a combination of antacid, gasx, and a gooood dose of painkillers EVERY night. Guess I may not get moving for a while. Perhaps I should make an appointment with Phillips.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
