What kind of questions should I ask?

Recommended Posts

So I went to see the surgeon last month and havent been able to ask this as I've been sick and spent most of the past 2 weeks in bed so basically my question is what kind of questions should I ask the nurse? After I went to see the surgeon he just said flat out within 5 minutes of sitting down "Yes we will be doing this surgery but you have to see my nurse first" So I thought sure ok I can handle that, the only thing I'll have to pay for this entire thing is the $100 to see her but I don't know what to ask her I mean I kind of know all the necessary stuff like what are the pros and what are the cons, and I'd just like to know a little bit more for when I do go see her. So does anyone have any questions I can ask her that you think will help me and/or what it is that you asked your nurse/dietician/surgeon that reassured you about this surgery? Thanks

did you go to a seminar? they are free and usually the seminars tell you everything you need to know. and then they have a question and answer period where you get to hear other peoples questions too.

You should ask questions like how does it work...how many surgeries has the doctor done, food questions, prices/insurance tests and nutritional stuff. There's lots of things you should ask.

Maybe I should have been a little more specific, I have no costs involved except to see the nurse, I do not have to pay for the surgery at all as my hospital is paying for it as I'm a "special case" and no I havent been to a seminar yet because why bother going when they will most likely tell me stuff I already know? =( But thanks about the food stuff and the nutritional one, I already kjnow about Iron deficencies/b12 etc but I'll definetly have to aks that.

I would suggest you go to a seminar23_33_7.gif, I went to 2 of them and learned a lot more then I thougt I knew. Each one gave me a little bit more since they were done by 2 different surgeons from the same office. It can't hurt and it cost nothing. Remember KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

Good luck and keep us posted. sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb098&pp=ZNfox000

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
