Hello everyone

I am looking for a "band buddy". I am a female w/ PCOS, 28 yrs old (29 in august 08). I am 5'10" and weigh 360 lbs. I wear a size 24/26. I currently live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I would like to be banded in September 2008. I am currently attending seminars about Lap Band to find the best fit for me. I have been thinking about get the Lap band for almost 5 yrs now.

If anyone has any similarities and are going to be banded around the same time, drop me a line.

Welcome! I also have PCOS. I was banded on April 22, and it's the best thing I've done! I've been thinking about it for almost 2 years, and finally made up my mind to do it. Thank God my insurance paid for it, I guess I had enough co-morbities. I've lost 26 lbs in about 5 weeks. The first week is hard, just keep positive and you'll do great. This site it great for any questions you have, it's helped me!!!

Hi Janelle! Welcome!

I live in Ohio too...much more north than you though! I know there are several on here from your area if you're looking for someone in person. Your doctor's office also may have a support group where you can meet others in your same place/situation.

Otherwise, you've got all of us! You may want to check out the 'Introductions' thread to find other new people in the beginning phases. Feel free to ask questions in the forums. Most are very helpful and willing to chat! I learned so much from this site and am very grateful for the people who are willing to share their experiences!

Good luck!

~C

Hi Janelle,

No, I'm in Findlay!

Yes, I got banded a month ago. I was losing weight pretty well there right away, but now I'm stuck. I get my first fill on Friday though!

Are you finding your way around here okay?

I tried the chat a few times, but I'm usually lost in there. You enter during conversations already in progress, so you have to read really fast and try to catch up. I don't care for it so far. Maybe an organized chat with a specific topic I'd like better.

I'm glad you love Cincinnati though! ;0)

Hi RoseJanelle!

I was having to double check your message to make sure that I hadn't written it. I am from Melbourne Australia and have just recently decided to have lap band surgery. I am booked in for 1 July 08. It has taken me 2 years to get the courage to see my doctor about it. After balling my eyes out he was so sweet and recommended a great surgeon.

I am turning 30 in August so I can't think of anything better I could do for myself. It is my chance to start enter my 30's with a spring in my step.

I am 175cm tall and weigh a 162kg (I was bright red when my surgeon weighed me). I think it converts to 356lb.

I have had a sleep test done and find out those results on Friday morning. This is to detect whether I have sleep apnoea. This scariest part for me it doing the Optifast diet 2 weeks before surgery. Yuck!

I am only new to this blog thing but if you have any questions, please let me know.

Lauren.

Yes, we do have much in common. I wish you luck. I just contacted our insurance and they do not cover anything on elective surgeries, esp for spouses. We do have the money saved yet and can not take out a loan right now...well, will not..until we have cleaned up some credit card debt. So, I have been working a lot to do that.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
