Just decided to go with the Lap band procedure

Recommended Posts

Hello, I just made an apointment and put down money to start with going foward with the lapband procedure. Luckily I found out that my insurance Company ( Blue Cross of CA PPO) covers the procedure, covers 80% and after $1000.00 wil cover 100%. I am 45 years old and I wiegh 255 lbs, BMI of 36.5. I have had Type II diabetes since I was 37 and I am sick of it, it's a constant battle to keep my sugar levels down. I have lost 20 lbs. since the last 3 months I was wieghing 275. I was wondering if I will loose too much weight before surgery will my insurance not cover me. Also if and when I have my surgery I was hoping to get rid of my diabetes problem, has anybody had good results after surgery with getting rid of diiabetes?

Jeff,

Well, lucky you. I'm savin' mah pennies to get my surgery done. :) The numbers on diabetes remission and Lap Bands are fantastic. Something like 73% of Type II diabetics see their diabetes move into remission. I have a friend who was taking 120 units of insulin a day. She was in her fifties, and weighed 350 pounds. Within a few months of having her Lap Band surgery, she was totally off insulin. Her diabetes is now in complete remission.

Good luck.

On the diabetes front, I have a fellow lapband friend who went thru the surgery on the same day as me. She has had diabetes her whole adult life. Since surgery and loosing 25+ lbs. her sugars are already significantly better and once she gets to her goal she will likely be free of insulin. I"m very excited about this for her. Her specialist is very impressed with her progress! The outlook is very promising for her!

I've never made a better decision in my life by choosing the Lap Band. I feel a 100% better already in just 2 short months and I'm now down 40lbs! I wish you the best of luck getting started in your new life!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
