hi everybody,

i was banded (that sounds weird to me) beginning of February. My dr. told me not to expect to lose weight until after 6 months. I lost weight initially, but gained it back once I healed after the surgery. At this point, I've had 3 adjustment. The first 2 times, it felt restrictive for the first couple days, but then it sort of eased up. I was eating small meals, but I couldn't stop myself from grazing. Especially at night. I'd eat a little, then go back and eat a little more, and a little more. II lost 1lb. Now I've had my 3rd adjusment. It's been 3 days, and I can't really eat at all!! It took me an hour to eat an egg. Especially in the morning, just swallowing a pill can hurt going down. I'm thinking it's too tight, but I'm finally losing some weight. Is this how it's supposed to be? I'll call my dr. monday, but I'm wondering what those of you that have already gone thru this have to say.

When is it too tight? I'm worried if I loosen it, I won't lose weight. Will this ease up after a few more days?

Thanks!

I am newly banded - only 5 weeks out, and have not had any fills yet. I have actually had a bit from surgery taken out.

But I have to say, that my thoughts are that you should not be living uncomfortably. All that I read about keeping things so tight that you have trouble eating scares me. These strategies seem dangerous. It seems that these tendencies are the things that could make it easier for the band to fail. Plus it just seems like it is unhealthy to live that way.

But again, this comes from someone new and scaredy to go through some of these things! I will be very conservative!

An hour to eat an egg is just about right sounds like you are at your sweet spot. It will loosen up some as you lose weight. But It usally take me an hour to eat any meal I only eat a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food per meal. Just make sure you are getting your protiens in and you will be fine. Restriction is how the band works. Make you eat slower and feel full sooner and longer.

well, i ended up going to the dr. to have some taken out. i couldn't eat! i lost 6lbs in 4 days. they freaked out when i told them, especially about how i kept throwing up. it's not normal, it's not ok, it's not how it has to be. after the adjustment, my boyrfriend and i went to eat. it felt SO good to eat, and not feel that pain. i ate. i got full (about 1/4 of the plate only). i stopped. it didn't hurt. it's good right now.

yey!

:)

Ah, in your first post you didn't mention that you were throwing up. Throwing up is not normal!

Restriction is and should slow your eating. Many folks are tighter in the morning than any other time of day, so eating Breakfast might take a while.

You might need to work on that grazing, though. Hundreds of calories sneak through.

You might try keeping a food journal, I use sparkpeople.com online. It's free. You might be amazed at how many calories you are eating.

While the band helps, YOU are the one who decides what you eat and when.

Go for it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
