Second Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would post my non scale victory (NSV) for anyone wondering what life is like after the band. I went away on a driving trip for a week. We ate every single day in the restaurant. My band kept me honest every single day and meal. I have a loose fill of 5.75 ccs in a 10 cc band and I was able to eat anything I desired including small amounts of a white bread roll. For the fun, I kept track of everything I ate and the quantities. When I arrived home I weighed myself and lost 1/2 lb. Oh so sweet. Normally I gain weight on driving trips. No matter what I may go thru with the band, I would never be without it.

Doddie Way to go! I know it is not easy to stay on track when eating out all the time. I have not been out to eat for over a month, because I was just banned Aug. 4th. I am hoping to take a driving trip myself soon, and would appreciate any suggestions from you on the foods you selected. Also, I am meeting friends for the first time for dinner next week.

Well I saw on TV a food specialist talking about restuarant selections and believe it or not he recommended egg and bacon as the healthiest choices.

So in the mornings we ate at Dennys and had the senior starter 1 egg, 1 slice of bacon. I ordered grained toast.

For lunch, Soup and salad

For dinner stayed with the senior menu and ordered anything from Liver and onions to chicken breast with ceasar salad. I stuck with the small portions and once I felt the tightness I stopped. Had a great time and my confidence is sooooooo high now. Good luck on your first try back.

Doddie Thanks so much for sharing. I was ordering eggs fixed many ways while on the pre-op diet, because I am trying to do low carb. They also help me to get in enough good Protein. I haven't tried a salad yet, since I have only been on regular food two days. I hope to have one this weekend, as I love salads.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
