Dry heaving, burping and spitting up after a fill - please help!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I hate to be gross but I have to ask for help. I have a 10 ml AP standard band. Until now, I have had very minimal restriction and have not lost a lot of weight. Before today, my band was filled to about 4 ccs. Today the doctor agreed that it was time to try another fill. Now I am up to about 5.5 ml. I have been struggling all day. I don't know if I just need to adjust to this or if I am now over-filled.

I have been very, very burpy and hiccupy all day. I also have dry heaves and some spit up. I am afraid to go out in public or back to work feeling this way.

Please advise! I am relatively new to this (January 18 banding). This is the first time I have had this restriction and these ill-effects. Not sure what to do!

THANKS SOOO MUCH.

Shalom, I have the same size band. I had a similar problem on my 3rd or 4th fill. On the 2nd day, I couldn't even swallow my spit. I was droolingl. I had to go back to get some taken out. If things don't get better tomorrow, you'll probably have to get a little out.

Thanks, Denise. I hope it gets better but I fear you may be right. And the scary thing is I was told that the doctors won't be in the office again until next Thurs! If I need a slight unfill, I'll have to wait that long....that is bizarre!

BTW, I think I made a mistake when I said "ml" instead of "cc." LOL

Thanks.

Anymore feedback would be great, guys!

yeah, I too was filled to 5cc's out of a 10 cc band and I lost 5 lbs in a week! I was soooo miserable, I was able to eat, but so little and I threw up a couple of times and discovered what the foamy spit up is and it was just plain gross!! I was like that for a week and then I went back to my doctor and told him it was too much, he took out 1cc and now I seriously believe I am at the sweet spot. I feel great, I am taking better care of myself and eating better and most importantly working out because I never ever ever want to go back to being overfilled--it has to be the worst feeling ever! call your doc and have him unfill you as that is no way to live and a super miserable experience, you eat something and you feel it sitting in your esophagus....sorry to be so graphic, but call your doc, that is what he is there for!!! good luck and happy banding, I promise you will feel better!

Thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate your advice. I hope this will improve, too. And yes, this is the first time I have had the foamy spit up - OMG, GROSS!!!

Congrats on all of your successes, guys, and thanks again for your help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
