hi, has anyone actually gotten (and carried) a pregnancy after a lap band? i know they just say that they can let the band out some , but i'm wondering if its really that easy? i have my 1st appt next month, and would like at some point to have a 3rd child, but i do wonder how easy it is after being banded?

thanks

pattie:smile2:

I have a friend who lost about eighty pound with the lapband. Then she got pregnant and had the band unfilled. She had a healthy pregnancy and baby. Best Wishes.

They don't let the band out. The band has a fixed size. Inside the band there is a "balloon" that is filled, and it's some of the fill they can let out (just want to make sure you get the mechanics). Letting fill out is very easy, poke, withdraw, you're done.

I'm on my second trimester and so far have been able to keep my pre-pregnancy fill. I've lost some weight, due to a lack of appetite, not any factors with my restriction. This is my first pregnancy, but other than the fact that I'm a lot less fat, I can't see how my band - to this point - has made any impact. It hasn't on my pregnancy itself. I plan on keeping my fill the entire time, potentially considering a full unfill for delivery, will depend on how my delivery anesthesiologist answers my questions. :cool2:

My sister in law just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy this past Monday. She was banded long enough to have lost 50 or 60 pounds. Her baby is just beautiful. Good Luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
