I got my band 3/11/08 from Dr. Michael Wood From ABMI at detroit medical center. I was going to get my first fill today 6 weeks post op and my Dr called and told me he has a new policy and will only be doing fills once a month and so don't come in till may 31. I will be 10 weeks post op this dosn't sound right. I've lost 38 pounds since I was banded but I'm getting hungry and eating more. I called my Dr. and he told me to have will power:cursing::party::cursing:. My surgury was $27000.00 since he got paid I feel he is blowing me off what should I do. I don't want to take a step backward:mad:

Well you are kind of stuck if fills came with the price of your surgery. If you go somewhere else, they are going to charge you. Have you called and said you are hungry all the time?

The only thing you can do is eat Protein every couple of hours. Stay away from white carbs-noodles, rice , potatoes, etc. Those will just cause hunger.

Medge- I'd raise hell with that doctor. I would not let him intimdate me with "use willpower". He changes his policy at your expense- he can change it back for you! Who gives a rat's a** about his "policy"?

Tell him you'll be happy to adhere to the 1 a month policy after he helps you now.

And the once a month poicy is called "extra profit" BTW in the business world.

I would demand he fill the band or ask for a refund or referral to another doctor. Yeesh these guys kill me!

Denise,

I'm just like you. I have long plateaus and then WHAM 4 pounds down all at once. Then another plateau. I just want to scream. I usually go three weeks with NOTHING. I exercise, watch what I eat, tend to manage portions, drink my Water, don't snack. My weakness is chips while I'm preparing dinner at night. That's my only vise. Actually my doctor says I'm an average to a fast loser, but I don't feel like it. I hate those dreaded plateaus.

I so love my band. Every time I am really sick of the small amount of food I can eat, I have it in my mind that I am going to go out to eat and pig out. I so pigged out. I had most of my fish, and two bites of a baked potato with sour cream and butter. I was stuffed. My band wouldn't let me eat any more and I was glad!

I'm so encouraged by each of you. I've been 1yr 5mo post band and didn't get on any thread to learn any of these inside struggles. I've felt like a failure all this time only losing less than 30 lbs. but now know that is progress of others also. I still haven't found the sweet spot in adjustments (had 3 so far), but am close. I think I'll stay on this site more frequently to stay on track. Thanks!

Thank you, mini-me...what we new bandsters need more than anything is for someone to tell us not to get discouraged and not to give up, especially if we don't lose at a rapid pace. We're all different and some people will lose faster than others. I am losing slower than I'd like because I haven't totally given up the sweets. I just took soft, oatmeal Cookies out of the oven and finished off two of them while they were still warm. Yes, I am ashamed and I feel horrible about it, but I will not allow this to make me give up. I will have to do better tomorrow and I WILL do better tomorrow. God willing, with the proper amount of restriction and will power, I will be able to let go of the sweets eventually (hopefully sooner than later). :crying:

Everyone loses sooo differently. Our journeys are all unique to us . . . the primary difference in obtaining ultimate success is sticking with it. It really doesn't matter so much if it is fast or slow, as long as you are losing. H

owever, when it is faster it is so much easier to stay motivated. I know I had a couple of plateaus that made me very depressed early on before I reached restriction (which lead to eating a little off plan which kept me on the plateau).

The best thing about the band is that if you follow the rules, eat healthy foods and get exercise, success will find you.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
