I'm not losing weight

Recommended Posts

I was banded 4/25...I'm just happy to be eating a lot less and feeling FULL. Seriously, the weight loss isn't my biggest priority; it's my bonus!

That is a great way to look at it!! I am happy that I am not as hungry myself. Since I was banded 6 days ago, I have been realizing that I have been eating out of habit and not out of hunger!! I just have to find another thing to turn to when I get stressed. Right now I can only walk, but I think that exercise will be my best friend!!!

The whole purpose for being banded was for better health. That is what I am focusing on.

I am wondering how you've lost 61+ so far? When did you start to lose weight? It's incredible seeing a loss that big being banded in April. Congratulations.

Hi JROB281,

I had to be on 3 months supervised diet before the Center would submit to insurance - most weight lost between then and waiting for surgery date...the conventional way! Eating less, healthy, increasing activity (walking) and being hungry a LOT. Since band, I have lost,IDK, about 16? But then gained 2-3 back in past 10 days! GRRR! Now I'm hungry again all the time...BUT hopefully fill tomorrow will help that.

Thanks for asking.

My scale started to finally move last week. So for total I lost 8 pounds pre op and 20 pounds since being banded 4/10 :] we are all doing so well. I also figured I didn't lose weight for like 10 days because I also had the monthly  during that time. gah

I have been banded 1 week so far and have lost 12lbs. I am ecstatic about this!! I have never lost this much in such a short time period before... I can definitely feel the band there and feel some restriction when I am drinking my Protein shakes. I know that there is no restriction in the band yet, but what I am feeling must be from the swelling post-op.

I will visit the doc on Monday and advance my diet and then again in 2 weeks for my first fill!!!

I am on my way to healthy!!!!

Okay, now I'm not losing. It's been a week and I even gained 1.5 pounds. I'm so hungry still, but I don't know what's wrong. I don't know what is different. AAAAARGH!!

Turler,

Did you have a fill yet? What I felt was intense hunger that started overnight a week ago (about 4 weeks post op)...hungry all week and ate twice as many calories as I had been just to not feel like I was starving. But I had a fill yesterday (3.5 ccs in a 9 cc band), and now back to being restricted and not hungry all the time.

I had GAINED 3 pounds in the past 2 weeks and was stressed out about it, but apparently it was Water weight, since this am I back down 2 pounds below what I was before. Go figure.

My dietitian says it happens...just keep the Protein up to at least 60 grams/day so metabolism doesn't shut down. And get fills when the hunger comes back...because as the fat around the stomach goes down, the band gets loose. It may take a number of fills to hit the sweet spot of longer lasting restriction. Everybody is different.

Sounds to me like you need a fill...

Thank you Lizalee!

I am scheduled for my first fill on May 16th. I can hardly wait. I am 4 weeks post op and feel like I could eat my own arm sometimes! I am starting to feel deprived...ya know, like when you diet so much and feel like you will never eat anything yummy again?! I graduated to a soft diet yesterday, so I am now allowed to have Pasta, rice and some meats that aren't blended. That is helping a little. I am just a little conservative because I just don't know my "full point". I am so scared of getting stuck that I might not be eating enough.

I am ready to just eat regular food so that I don't feel so deprived. I'd rather feel full and be able to go a few hours than this eating every 1-2 hours some sort of soft/mushie thing that just goes right through me!

I was banded on April 15,2008 and lost 15 lbs when I went in for my post-op check and I have gained the weight back. I am so mad at myself. I get my first fill on May 28, 2008 and then hopefully I will lose the weight.

I am happy to see this post. I had surgery on 4/3 and have lost 18 pounds. I have not lost any weight in a couple of weeks and just sustained. I have my first fill on 5/19. I will just stay positive and consider the weight I have lost so far a jumpstart. Hang in there everyone. We are all doing well.

Chilly: I think that the most important thing is for you to identify why the weight was gained back. I was told that anybody can eat "around" the band and be unsuccessful. The band is only a tool to help you feel full faster and eat slower. It is up to us bandsters to be committed to using it as a "tool" combined with good food choices and exercise.

Hopefully you can get your mind back into the game. Without the right mindset, the fills won't work either.

All the best to you!!

It seems I just made the group by one day!! Banded April 30. I am been on Soups and Clear liquids but today I tried some runny mashed potatoes but they just made me feel blah. I thought they would be a little more comforting but no such luck.

I am thinking of starting some light exercise this week - although I have had conflicting advice about this. It will be the start of week 3 and I would really like to start making some effort to tone - but don't want to hurt myself or impede anything.

any advice?

Wow. Congrats on the hard work. I hate feeling hungry, if there were some magic pill to take to make the feeling go away after eating a little bit, I'd do it. I just started mushies and I'm scared to put any back on and scared my appetite will come back with a vengeance. But, I can live with being hungry knowing I've eaten what I should.

I was banded 3 weeks ago too. Have stopped losing and feel like I have gained some lbs back. The doctor told me the day of surgery this is completely normal. He told me not to get discouraged because once you get the fill, you'll begin losing again. I stopped stepping on the scale every morning because I was getting depressed. Plus-if you're working out (even walking) we're toning up. Muscle weighs more than fat.

Also, we must remember we didn't put all the weight on over night.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
