How much time off??

Recommended Posts

I am trying to decide how much time I need to take off from work after surgery. My date (I can't believe I finally have one!) is May 12th, a Monday. I work in a classroom, so it isn't a physical job. What do you 40 year olds suggest? Looking to hear advice from y'all who have been there and done it already! Thanks!

I took off three weeks. I was positive I wouldn't need it, but now I wish I had taken 4weeks. I needed to take a few extra days. I did have a rough time with gas so I am not sure if that had something to do with it.

I was getting around pretty good after a few days - luckily I dont work much in the winter so I was able to just take it easy -but if I had to I could have went to work after a week - thats at a desk job.

I teach also, I took 2 wks. I realize that it might seem that you can go easy once you're back at school, but the 2 wks. did me good. I was able to get up around the house and work my way back to the level of activity I would have at school.

Good luck,

Annette

I am a teacher, 5th grade. I was banded on Friday 4/4 and went back to work April 17 Thursday for parent conf. and 1/2 friday April 18. Started back full time April 21 . Some say they go back in a few days. I wasn't ready. I'm glad I had 2 weeks. I'm glad I waited especially because you have to change the way you eat. I really had little pain and was up moving pretty good in a few days.

I have a desk job but do get up to "run" around the office a lot. I took off 2 weeks which was just right. I have twins that are 7 so after working all day, I had to "meet all of their needs". Good luck!

I am only 30 but I figured I could put in my input hehe .. I've been off a total of 6 days, including surgery day and the weekend. I'm going back tomorrow and other than giving out easily and a little soreness... I think I'm ready. That might change tomorrow lol but right now I'm ready!

I tried to take off just a couple of days - surgery on a Monday, aiming to be back to work on Wednesday. I have a desk job, nothing strenuous, thought it seemed de-able. The thing that got me the most was 1) the post-op lethargy and 2) the pain in my shoulders from the air that got into my abdominal cavity during the surgery. OUCH! I ended up taking one week off. Also, my doctor fitted me with a morphine drip directly into my belly that I had to carry around in a little bag everywhere. It finally ran out after 6 days, so I didn't have to wear it to work. I had my surgery one year ago - I was 46 then. Please don't push yourself too fast - even though it's minimally invasive, it's still surgery.

Hugs!

Donna

I was 49 years and 364 days old when I had the band put in. I had the op on a Friday at 12noon and was back to my desk job on Monday (3 days later).

Well it looks as if there is a broad sctrum to time off. I am being banded on Thursday, may 15 at 2pm and am scheduled to go back to work on Monday. I work at a middle school in special education and do a lot of walking - thinking the walking will be good for me --- just a little scared - maybe will take off Monday, too. I Am SOOOOOO excited. worried about waking up from the anesthetic - thats my only fear.

I was banded on a Monday and went back to work the following Monday. - 1 week. It was good for me because I also have a desk job.But like one of the other posters stated. Do what you feel is best for you.. I was able to get out and drive after 3 days. and that was only because I was still a little groggy from the pain medication. Good luck with your progress. !

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
