..and what about that Savory Tooth?

Well...on a quick note, I've heard that I may be super succesful because of my savory tooth!

I'll pass down cake at weddings and parties to nibble on more nachos, chips and dips, or anything with cheese and bread. My favorite food in the WORLD is Mexican (lots of Vegetarian options)

And I rarely eat candy. It just hurts my stomach. I don't like chocolate...milk or frosting...yuck, just too heavy on me.

So I heard in the chat that this will go over very well with my band, has anyone heard this?:huh2:

Bikini - I've not heard that, but I too never had a sweet tooth. Give me some chips / queso & large margarita,...that was more my style. I'll say this - I lost a LOT of my chip / bread / cheese cravings after being banded. I can't remeber the last potato chip I've had - or Slab of bread w/butter....I will on occassion have some tortillas w/queso - but that's not too often - LOVE mexican food.< /p>

Hopefully if these are your problem foods like they were for me - the craving will pass, and you won't miss them too much:rolleyes:

I've been told that my sweet tooth may be a problem for me with the band. But chips (which I can't stand) are band friendly too.

I think what really kills bandsters is not dealing with emotional eating. If you eat when your body tells you it's not hungry, the band isn't going to help you.

Likewise, if you aren't ready to make lifestyle changes.

If you are ready to deal with your head hunger and make lifestyle changes, there are plenty of sweet and savory options that will help you lose weight. If you aren't, then you'll find a way to eat around the band.

I think it means you prefer salt to sweets. I am that way myself. However, breads I understand will not do well unless you toast them.

Things like chocolate, ice cream, chips and dips go down easily for most. Most bandsters have problems with bread, rice and Pasta. The food that is best for bandsters to eat is lean meat, veggies and healthy carbs.

It is good that you don't have a sweet tooth. That tends to be a weakness for anyone trying to lose weight.

Good luck.

I don't know .... it seems that pretty much anything that you put in your body in too large of a quantity could sabotage your weight loss. (maybe not celery, LOL)

I personally like ALL kinds of foods. Sweets, salty, you name it. I don't think I really have a weakness in any area. I have had my band for almost 4 months now and I pretty much eat whatever still. Just smaller amounts. If I want something sweet, I try to have a SFfudgsicle or some SF pudding. Usually that satisfies that craving. If I want chips, I have a few. I will go on a serious binge if I deprive myself too much. It is pretty awesome that I can not possibly eat 1/2 a pizza or more anymore though. 1 slice and I'm done.

I don't think it matters what your taste buds are because regardless of what types of food you prefer, one can still eat around the band. chips and bread break down into sugar anyway. It's all carbs. Mexican food is really fattening. Sour cream, cheese, sauses, guacamole, are all very soft foods that will be very easy to eat with the band but they are not healthy. Just be careful

Yeah - I am at great restriction right now and I will PB just about any carb except for chips (tortilla and potato) - the only good news is that I am satisfied with only 3-4 at a time....this is unreal.

Last week while travelling for business, I carried around the same small bag of chips (the kind you get at subway) for 3 days in my bag until they were smushed! In the old days, those would have been inhaled before I even knew what was happening....

Love the band!

It can be - but there are alternatives. In my mushie stage FF refried Beans w/LF sour cream were a staple. I make homemade guac A LOT and use fresh ingredients, avacados are a great source of Protein & use often in salads or sandwhiches.

I brown ground turkey frequently to make taco salad - again using LF sour cream / FF refried Beans .... Living in TX , you can find a LOT of Mexican low fat alternatives to get your fix in.

There is no subsitute for cheese - it is what it is..Yum

Actually, avocados are an EXTREMEMLY healthy food. They have more nutrients that any other single food. Yes, they have oils that have calories, but my doctor told me 1/4 of an avocado is a VERY good food choice. So are Beans. He highly recommends both, so I eat them every one or two weeks.

That's awesome that you've been able to substitute some of these things. My sister was telling me she does this too when it's taco night at her house. I may have to try it...YUM

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
