I Have a Date!!!

Recommended Posts

I have just been scheduled for surgery on April 21...I am so excited. However, I had to go through Dr. Mally as Dr. Jessie Lopez (in Kansas) is not certified to perform the surgery and may not be until end of May (optimistcaly) which by the way, he had not told me until last week. I had already been in to see him and he had sent my letter and I ws approved. Never said a word until his nurse actually told me late Friday afternoon.

Nontheless...Dr. Mally and his office steped in to get me in right away..can't wait!

Thanks to all who have given encouragement and I am sure this is just the beginning!

Congrats grammi!!! Hey Kathy, add her to the list-o-bandsters!

A note about the non disclosure by the doctor: so would you be his first band??? Can't you take your approval letter and go somewhere else if you wanted to? I guess surgeons have to all start somewhere but I can definitely say I wouldn't want their first ones to be on me, just my opinion. personally, I would look around now. You have your approval for the "procedure" not the specific doctor, so I would assume you can take it anywhere.

That is what I did...Dr Jessie Lopez was the first doctor I went to....when I felt a small problem...ie: not certified and maybe being his first...I decided to look elsewhere. Dr Mally had been my first pick anywany and after seeing them today, they (Dr. Mally) are contacting the insurance to switch it over to Dr. Mally...not Dr. Lopez. Make sense?

I just feel Dr. Lopez should have been up front with me about not bing certified in the first place..oh well all well that ends well!

Grammi, Congratulations! I just went through this for some non-band related surgery. The loss of time was frustrating because I was dealing with a lot of pain. But in hindsight, I got a much more qualified surgeon who was able to do both procedures at once. So everything has a way of working out for the best. Best of luck to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
