Last week I had my 6-week check up and thought I would get my first fill, but the doc said I should be on solids first before they do the fill. Since I was on mushy, semi-liquids still I was excited to try solids. I don't know what the problem is, everything solid I eat keeps getting stuck or comes back up. I am becoming afraid to eat because I don't want to experience that excruciating pain again. I tried chicken and boiled carrots and I chewed and chewed and chewed. I'm trying, honestly, to get this stuff down but it just doesn't want to go. Oh well, I have until mid-May to get back to solid food. It's just kind of ironic, I'm trying to eat....:blushing:

bex, I'm still trying to learn what I can & can't do. I was banded on Halloween and so far I've learned that chicken (white meat) is always a no-no for me! Sometmes I can eat a little bit of dark chicken meat. I also learned that what works one day just fine, won't on another day for "who knows why!"

I remember that when I kept having to spit it back up, I found that I must have aggravated my eusophogus (sp ?), so I took only liquids for 24 hours to calm it down, then things went better :blushing:...don't worry, you'll find what works for you! Talk to your surgeon or your surgeon's staff....they are typically very helpful! Good luck.

Bexter - Sounds like you might not even need a fill - you have restrictions..

Suggestions that work for me - Take tiny bites (size of a pencil eraser) eat slowly and chew chew chew.

chicken seems to be a hard one for alot people - but try the tiny bites - have you tried lean red mead - pork or fish ?

Our bands are very fickle - one day you can eat chicken the next day you can't.

Have you tried yellow crooked neck squash or zucchini. I find them very band friendly along with spinach and french style green Beans, grilled egg plant with out the skin..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
