thanks.. when i read your blog i saw myself all over again.. no loss for the pst 3 months... first too much fill... spitting up any food consumed yet no weight loss... then finally went for an unfill... with that i had no restriction... so could eat and eat... i think if i let myself i could eat 4 piece fried chicken dinner with 3 sides and desert...so was feeling i didnt even have a band... so now have apt.to see Dr. and get a small fill to get restriction again.. have lost 70 lbs in 10 months but none for the last 3 months..i did not have this procedure to stop halfway.. but it is hard to know where the sweet spot is...like i had too much fill and then took some out and now not enough.... HELP...i think what i need is 2.5 fill because they filled me a whole 1.0 and then took out half of that so now if i have 1/4 = 2.5 put back in it should be perfect... i cannot find this blog sometimes when i try to see replys so please respond back to me and help me get it together... email me at thedove2@yahoo.com with replys... thanks so much my friends and i am glad u got it together after all.. it is a journey we have to keep going with.... andrea... me too! I havent lost though for 2 months and I was banded last september. had an unfill and now it is almost like nothing is there at night! I do still feel tight in the mornings. I am tired of being stuck at 50 pounds, i want to lose total of 100. This is making me mad now. I thought I would surely lose 5 pounds a month! I havent given up but I know i need to get back in gear !

Hi Andrea,

Of course there is hope for you honey. It's all about going back to the basics. You are right you can lose weight without exercise, however you can't tone and build your muscle without exercise. Think of it like this. If you take your car in to get new tires. Are you going to tell them to just put the tires on without balancing them, umm probably not. So Basicly diet and exercise go hand in hand. If you are still strugggling contact your surgeon and see what he/she suggests. They are there to help you and they can't help you if they don't know what is going. Also remember you are very newly post-op and still adjusting to all the changes taking place in your body, mind and soul. Take this time to get to know you and what you want and you will have success!!

I just got banded March 20th, and my Doctor did not want to fill me last week, since I had lost 24 lbs...but she said I know you aren't letting the band work for you, so next time around, eat more Protein, less soups...(I liked the Soup phase..easier for me) and exercise. Coach, thanks for the blog, I needed to hear so I can focus on letting the band work for me, not try sheer willpower as my Doc says I am rignt now..

Honey this story is probably about 30% of bandsters story. This is the exact reason I wrote this article, so the 30% know they are not alone. It really is up to us to work with our band to make sure we are receiving optimal results. Now get off your butt and help your band do what it's supposed to do :frown:

I was banded in Nov 06, and to date I have lost 51lbs, I feel like at times I can pretty much eat what I want with the few exceptions of certain foods, I think I need a fill, but being that some foods are not tolerated, I don't know if a fill is the answer. I want to lose at least another 15lbs, but I feel like its not coming off anymore. I have went from a size 18-20 to a 12, but I havent been exercising or anything. I need some advise, please.

I feel like a failure!!

Dottie:confused2:

Cher, I was banded end of Jan, all went well and I am down 41 pounds, but I have not moved for almost 2 months, inches 45.5! so that is something, but man that scale is not a budgin! I do exercise 5 days a week, this includes the curve cicuite and walking daily, I have anywhere from 750 - 1000 calories per day, should I be eating more? I do believe tho from the posts I have read that I need more protien, can you give me an idea of what your menue is like on any given day, thanks, Val

Val,

Honestly to me is sounds like you are not getting in enough calories. Your body thinks it is in starvation mode so it is holding onto everything you put it in. By working out 5 days a week you should be able to off set any "Extra" calories you may have.

My typical calorie count is between 1200-1600 a day depending on how much exercising I am doing.

When I am doing a challenge (working out six days a week) I consume 1600 calories a day. When I'm not doing a challenge and working out 3 days a week I cut my calories to between 1200-1400 a day.

I hope this helps.

~Cher~

Thanks Cher, I decied I would bump up my calories this morning, I am going to aim for 1200 I am going to give that a try for a week and see if it puts me back into some weight loss, this morning I had a lil something something before my walk and work out, after I got to work and got started about my day I had some Breakfast, followed by a nice ceasar prawn salad with walnuts and red onion for lunch, and a chicken stir fry for dinner, oh had a Jello snack too, in just this one day I felt the differnce with eating twice in the morning, I am stuffed! I also went through my closet today and got rid of a box full of clothes that are now to big! YA! I'll keep you updated on my progress, thanks again Val.

Hi Cher,

I have not been on this post in months. Iam so teribly dissapointed. In me in the band, inall the above. I paid my md up front for the cost of the surg, fills and support. I am not happy with him. I do not feel any support, knowlege, or help is there for me. I don't want to go back to him. Its been sence Nov 07 sence my surg, and its been a complete failure. I don't want to go back to JUST DRINKING protien shakes. I live in Ventura Ca, I guess I need to find a good group here thats close, and shel out the money for a different dr. Do you have any suggestions for me??? Feeling hopeless Tx

I am also feeling like you and was banded over a year and a half. I need to get focused on having this band work for me and my goals. I should remind myself how hard it was just to have the surgery finally approved and that this was my chance to get healthy. I feel good but I know I need more support and a plan to stay on track. Stay positive and make small changes that will lead to your success. Good luck

I want to know how you are doing today? I am just reading your message in Sept. It is hard when snacking does not get stuck. I still cannot eat meat and vegetables almost two years later. Haven't lost any in 6 months. After reading all these post i am going to commit until December to do my best. I might be doing shakes a couple times a day to get on track. I really want to know how you are doing. Thanks

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
