I am 27 years old, scheduled for banding on May 8th. I have heard these stories about people having problems!! It scares me to death. Because of our age are we less likley to have these problems. How many of you have been problem free, and if nor what kind of problems did you have. Did you lose weight fast or slow? I was also wondering about the extra skin thing. I have heard that its not as bad if you are young. Im not that big either, Im 5'10 and 280. I just wanted to ask people my age and see what kind of experiance they had!! Thanks:tt2:

im only three months out but i haven't had any problems but that doesn't mean anything either. There are so many variables it would be impossible to tell you for sure. I was scared to thats why i had this surgery and not the bypass cause i couldn't get over my fear to have the bypass but got over to have this one. The best advice I think is to know that you can trust your surgon (sp?)

Nothing to do with age, but I had a flipped port that required an additional surgery. Still 100% love my band!

I have gone to the ER twice since banding, first time I thought I had blood clots, but I just pulled a muscle from not taking my pain meds post-op. 2nd time was a couple weeks ago, I had sharp contraction pains. They never gave me a conclusive answer, but I am pretty confident it had nothing to do with the band. Unless, I was compacted from how little bowel movements I now have with the band. Doc that was helping me at the hospital is actually a bariatric surgeon and he didn't seem to think it had anything to do with the band, he thought I had food poisoning.

And that's the extent of it, nothing I would blame the band for, or wish I hadn't done it. It's the best thing I did for me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
