I found out I am getting a new Realize Band, a Dr Ponce is flying into my city to "Proctor" my surgeon. After the first one the surgeon will be using the new band on his own. Boy, am I glad to get the "expert" in my operating room! Two for the price of one. They actually pushed the date of my surgery from May 14 to June 6 so this guy can be there. I won't complain though! Just so happy to be in line for surgery and approved by the insurance!

Hi CathyChatts,

I'm guessing that this is probably Dr. Jaime Ponce, yes? He has an office is in my state and I considered him for surgery, until I found out that his self-pay fee was more than I could afford. He is quite prominent in the Lap Band world, especially as he has proctored for both the Inamed band and now for the Realize band -- and I have read nothing but positive things about him. So it sounds like you are in good hands. Best of luck.

Thanks for the information Green! You are correct, it is Dr. Jamie Ponce, you must be in either GA or TN. I understand he is quite the expert in bands so it is worth waitng for. I was scheduled for May 17 and then they changed it to June 6 so Dr. Ponce could be there. I feel honored that he will be at my surgery. Lucky ME!:)

Hi,

I do have such a telematric adjustable band - the easyband. Got it in 2005 in a clinical trial in Germany. Here is a picture of the band and the control unit:

kontrolleinheit.jpg

The adjustment is really easy - and if I would have such a control unit at home i could do it myself :tongue2: !

At the moment the band is not available. Not in Germany and as well not in Austria and Switzerland.

The Easy band is a next-generation remote controlled gastric band (not currently available in the US) acquired with the acquisition of EndoArt Sa, a Swiss medical technology developer, in early 2007. It was purchased by Allergan, the same company that represents the Lap-Band. More information can be found at http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/easy-band-new-band-allergan-55046/ .

I just saw the new version of the Lap Band on Friday. It has the saline ring that goes all the way around and the ring extends beyond the band and the explaination I got was that the wider ring and the consistant pressure all the way around makes it more difficult for the slippage to happen. The nurse said that the slippage-or the larger part of the stomach slipping up through the band was thought to happen in the 25% of the band that didn't have the inner saline ring and that lack of pressure made it the place that slippage happened. I hope this helps! They also called this one the LapBand AP. Moe

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
