Ackphbhth, I had replied, then hit the wrong button, went "back" and lost my response.

Let me start off my saying you didn't strike a nerve with me. I think your post is very hypocritical, but it doesn't anger or upset me, you're coming from a place of anger and frustration and jealousy so it's pretty much to be expected.

Sorry, but I haven't weighed that since high school. I would have a harder time w/o this surgery than you!
That's something I think you'd find nearly impossible to support. You've been overweight your entire life, I have not, yet my pre-op BMI was probably on par with yours, if not higher. That you've been fat longer than I had doesn't mean we wouldn't have had equal difficulty without the surgery, and it's just not something you can rationally put a value judgment to (e.g. I need it more than you need it). There are people for whom 40 lbs is unbearbale, medically. In other words, people for whom gaining 40 lbs does more damage to their body than me gaining 200+. Even though they have 40 to lose and I had about 210, I couldn't say "I need it more than you" or "I deserve it more than you" because surely they would disagree.

Your price quote is on the high end of self-pay costs, roughly twice some of the lower quotes I've seen. Have you considered looking for a price that's easier for you to swallow? I see you talking a lot about the money, but nothing about the skill of your surgeon. Is your surgeon someone you personally selected, hence you're going with them and don't want to try for a lower price?

BTW, I'm certainly no fan of welfare, if you frequent RnR you probably know that. But because someone on welfare if wearing designer clothes doesn't mean you should judge them for it. I have friends who ship last season's designer fashions off to Goodwill and the Salvation Army each Spring.

"Not to be a complete bitch, but I need this surgery more than someone who weighs 225. "

Now THAT's an epic fail!! At not being a complete bitch, I mean, in case anyone was wondering...

I didn't need my surgery at the time I had it - I was one of the lower BMI gang when I had it - but I was gonna need it within a year or so.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
