Hi all!

I have had my band for 5 yrs now, and I have not a fill in over 3 years. For the past 3 months or so I have been burping constantly, and having trouble. When I lay down at night I get a gurgling noise, and sometimes acid coming up in my mouth. I have been able to eat most foods, with little trouble the past year, although I have not lost much in the past 2 years. I am really worried that something has happened to the band. I am now doing liquids, but 2 mornings ago, I threw up my medication and Water that I drank with it. It just sat on me until it came up. Can the band shift or tighten even if it has been that long since it has been touched? I am going for an upper GI and then the doctor says we will go from there. She did not want to even check the band until I have the upper GI done.

I appreciate any input!!!!

Hopefully, someone with more experience can answer you. My suggestion would be to call your dr. right away. I know my dr said if I have any of those symptoms to call him because it could indicate a problem. Hopefully, everything is fine with you. Good luck.

Im going on three years and am experiencing the same thing you are. I am going in for an upper GI tomorrow. My doctor mentioned it could be acid reflux affecting my esophagus due to the band slipping. I haven't been able to keep anything down for 3 weeks. I'm very concerned. Please let me know what the GI shows if you wouldn't mind sharing.

Thanks.

PLEASE, if you haven't already, get to a doctor-TODAY. I had problems with my band/port site for over a year, it would get infected and then clear up. Had been diagnosed/treated for GERD for years, but kept having what I thought were bouts of "stomach flu"-couldn't keep anything down-finally-I collapsed last summer-CT scan revealed band had "migrated" to in front of my hip-spent 8 days in local hospital with incompetent/ignorant doctor-FINALLY was removed to "Center of Excellence" hospital an hour away where they perform bariatric surgery and removed my band which had eroded completely through my stomach and progressed down my intestinal tract and caused complete blockage. I am very lucky to be alive. Please don't delay seeing your bariatric team!

I just went this morning and had an upper GI done. They saw the band and it looked fine. However there were alot of acid going back up into my esophagus. I will not get the results until first part of next week. I will let you know something. I cannot beleive you had all that trouble. How could that have happened? Thank God you are alive and well now.

It happened over a period of time-don't know exact time frame-the hospital had "lost" my previous GI work ups where it was in the correct place. Had some pain and difficulty eating off and on-cause was never diagnosed, but the last 6 months before diagnosis was horrible-all my docs can attribute my survival to is strong faith and LOTS of prayers.

I'm having pretty much the same problem. I've already had one band replaced due to slippage, but we thought that was due to having just had a baby. It seemed to literally happen the same day I gave birth.

But I haven't had a fill in many months. I actually avoided it because of the fear of acid reflux. All of the sudden out of no where the same thing.

Now, today, I just got a letter from my doctor's office stating that they will no longer be contracting with any insurance carriers. So after 2 surgeries, and now more complications, I might have to change docs. What a freaking mess!

I can't wait to hear your results. Good luck to you. I wonder if anyone has ever had this happen and recover with no issues?

Hi, sorry it has been so long. I had my band unfilled 4 weeks ago and feel much better. Although, I am able to eat everything. I am supposed to go back and slowly add Fluid back in the band soon. My upper gi revealed that nothing was going through the esophogus, it would just bounce back and forth, and trickle down.

I lost 70 lbs, no fills ever and out of now where started vomiting and from there it went to a slip and I had to have it removed asap. I was dehydrated and it was the second time in one month I had been hospitalized! CRAZY! I too was having to sleep sitting up to avoid choking at night and well believe it or not after one year without the band I am reconsidering doing it again! It has been a crazy year and I only had regained 12lbs until just recently!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
