What would you do?

Recommended Posts

I am in need of a little fill and don't really want to take a day off of work and drive for 3 hours to get it. There is a woman 20 min. away from me that does them for $75. I only want about .2 or .3 cc's. I wouldn't tell my surgeon about it in fear that he would drop me as a paitent.

What would you do?

Oh, Terri, that's asking for trouble! What if this woman gave you too much, used the wrong type of needle, damaged your port, (the list of problems is endless)? Please only let someone (banding dr. or his/her trained assistant) who's been properly trained get near your port. It may be tempting to save $$ and time, but it could possibly cost you your band in the long run. Please take care of yourself.

She is trained. She does a lot of people around here. She is a certified Nurses Midwife and also has the band herself.

Is she licensed by Inamed? If you had complications, would your band dr. help you? Where does she do the fills at? In a sterile environment?

I would only do something like that if I had my doctor's blessing. Otherwise, nuh-uh. There's too much at stake to risk any problems, the least of which would be your doctor potentially dropping you as a patient (though I doubt he'd do that, even if he wouldn't be too thrilled with you).

My doctor checks to see what's in there before he fills too. That's not a tough question for me, I value my band and port too much. Hope all goes well.

Thanks all! I talked it over with my family tonight and decided that I will stay with my surgeon. My band is MUCH to important to me to mess it up now! Thank you all for your support. It means soooooo much to me to have you all.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
