Been there...done that!!! NEVER in my life had i been constipated...before now...but same thing happened to me around the same time too. My doctor prescribed a laxative (first time in my life). Did the trick like 4 hours of suffering later...better now, haven't taken any more but i try to drink a lot of Water.< /p>

I'm in the same boat. I'm 5 weeks post op and have suffered with this for the past 3 weeks. I drink about 10-12 glasses of Water a day and it wasn't helping any. I've started eating no sugar added applesause everyday and I've also started taking Miralax everyday (you can get it at Walmart over the counter) I'm alot better now. Still only "go" every other day but that's better than every 4 or 5 days. It usually works overnight. The Miralax mixes well in crystal light or fruit juices. You don't have to mix it in a lot of liquid either, just a few ounces are fine.

I get that way occassionally. My surgeons office recommended milk of magnesia. It works in like a couple of hours! Doesnt hurt your stomach or your band. I actually took it just a couple of days post op.

Add me to those who suggest milk of magnesia! And then, Benefiber and plenty of Water. I had a problem a week or so after surgery but I've been fine since. No, I don't go as often as I used to, but that's to be expected when you're eating less.

In my experience milk of magnesia just gave me diarrhea then I tried dulcolax and it worked better. But the best for me is drinking more Water and eating 3 prunes every morning... really works!

Stool softeners worked for me. I think it was Phillips. My doctor suggested that because he said it was less harsh than laxatives. No cramping, no runs, worked it's magic within a few hours. I was told the pain meds were more than likely the culprit.

It is done!!

Just returned home. Had my band yesterday. No pain, no gas, just that awful anesthesia taste for about 4 hours post op. Now the real journey begins. Thanks to this forumn I felt completely prepared and confident this is the way to go.

Many thanks, J.

Has anyone tried Miralax for Constipation after banding? It's OTC now, and just needs to be mixed with a liquid. I always use orange juice since I can still feel the texture of the powder, even if it is fully dissolved in the liquid. With OJ, I can just pretend it's the pulp.

It's just a mind over matter thing. the powder is fully dissolved. It can't be seen. I just know it's in there. I don't get that same feeling when I mix anything else, just the miralax.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
