question about band sizes

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I hope someone can answer this question accurately for me. I was banded one month ago. At my 2 week post op i asked the nurse what size of band i had she just looked at the chart and said "you have an AP Standard". I figured that was a 10 cc band. When I got my first fill today I asked the doctor how many cc's he would give me and he said 3 or 4, you have a 14 cc band. I know that Mondays for him are fill days and he sometimes has 15-20 people get fills in one day...do you think he was confusing me with someone else? I mean, my chart says AP Standard...what size is that exactly? I did get 4 cc's in my fill today...thanks for the help!

I was told I also have an ap which is about comparable to 10cc band. My 1rst fill was only 1.5cc's 5 days ago and I don't feel any restriction at all. My doc says to give a fill about 2 weeks. I don't understand the sizes of these bands either, I just know that I was told I had the new band. Good luck to you!

There is an APS or Advanced Platform Small which is 10 cc/mL and an APL or Advanced Platform Large which is 14cc/mL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
