Morbidly Obese Support Sites....Non Surgical?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Ive had my band removed about a month ago. Its a long story....Ive posted about my band problems before, but I feel better now. I'm still a faithful lurker to the board. This is not to offend anyone, I just wanted to know if anybody can share any online support groups or boards for those who or morbidly obese, that are not related to surgery. If you try to do a search on weight loss support everything either points to surgery(aaah commercialism :Dancing_wub:) or groups of soccer moms who have 10-50lbs to loose(lucky bastards). I'm not anti-surgery (or soccer moms:biggrin2:), I would just like to see an online community of people who are like me, dealing with the struggle of having 100+ pounds to loose....naturally. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know of any -- maybe try something sponsored by FAA? I don't know if you're just looking for "I'm obese" support or diet support or self-acceptance support or what, but that might be a goo dplace to start (though they may not have anything on dieting - but maybe they do... I dunno).

Weight watchers has a community board -- it is basically the same as this board.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check out Weight Watchers

Ive been to Obesity Help.....didn't seem to dirty to me, but it did focus on surgery a lot.

Wheetsin, I guess I would like a place where there is more emphasis on obesity support than just "diets". What is FAA? well, nevermind....(Off to Google:o)

Now don't laugh but there is a website called 3fatchicksDOTcom.

It's a great site.

I starting reading years ago at its inception.

It was founded by three sisters and their attempts at losing weight.

They were basically journals at that time.

They are now an ad sponsored site (still FREE).

They do reviews of diets, diet books, etc. They have message boards and journals.

It's a really nice place.

The three sisters have been successful and not so much like we all have. One may have even had WLS, I'm not sure which one.

I havenn't read there for a few months since being dead set on LB.

They have a thread/forum etc for WLS too.

Check it out.

Others around are links from Prevention mag.

WW as was stated above.

Diet or Diets DOT com

Sparkpeople

Runners worls has forums

Special K had something over at Yahoo groups a while ago when the Protein Water came out.

The Biggest Loser - but its a pay membership like WW.

A few years ago we all (form the dept) went to see a nutritionist and it was $12 a week. There was some good guidance but like I have said elsewhere (and please no one take offense)..If you need great diet and exercise advice/plan, ask a fatty. We know them all!

3fatchicks is a good site.

Maybe it wasn't obesityhelp.com I was reading. The site I had in mind also had forums with pictures of nude fat people and other fetish junk as well as a forum about lap band surgery etc.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
