how do you know if your band has slipped?

Recommended Posts

I got banded on the 26th and at the beginning I could feel the restriction...but now it seems like I don't even have a puch but a bottomless pit!! I even ate 2 scrambled eggs and half an apple. Is this normal?:confused2:

I was banded on March 19th and I've also noticed the last couple of days that I seem to be hungrier and could eat more than I could before. I know that we supposedly don't have any restriction yet, but I'm trying not to eat more than 4 oz at one sitting because that's what my dietician told me to do.

I've also wondered if my band might have slipped but have no way of knowing. I really think that I'm able to eat more now because the swelling has gone down in my stomach, but I'd also like to find out if someone knows how to know if your band has slipped.

Yes, I too think that we can eat more because of the lack of swelling but it is just too easy now...I mean, at least now I can drink a whole Protein shake, but I am getting hungrier too...I had sweet & sour Soup and the soft tofu went down so easy!!!

Out of all the ppl my Dr. did the lap band on no one has had any type of band slippage....I hope I am not the first.:thumbup:

Yes, totally normal until you get filled -- maybe even multiple fills until you get proper restriction.

If your band slips, you won't be getting down half an apple and scrambled eggs -- you'd likely be puking if you try to eat anything at all. :purplebananna: Don't worry -- you sound completely normal for where you're at post-op! (assuming your doc has moved you off mushies and on to solid foods)

Search on "bandster hell" -- that's the phase you are in from now til you get filled.

Thanks Molly, I feel much better now too!! Today is the day 23 post op for me and I'm moving onto chicken breast, beef, pork, Peanut Butter, tuna salad, etc beginning today and so looking forward to it. I'll be on this stage for 2 weeks then I can have pretty much whatever I want, as tolerated. My first fill is April 25 and I can't wait, I need the restriction now....

Bill's wife, Wendy's chili, yum yum, I hadn't thought of that, but I would say it's ok for the mushy stage, as long as you've been cleared for beef and chew, chew, chew. That gives me another menu item, thanks for asking about that, lol.

Blyn, I wasl also banded on March 19. I find it hard to get all my liquids down during the day also, and what I have to do is start drinking when I first get up and I only stop 30 minutes before I eat, during, and 1 hour after, then start drinking again. If I don't do this I don't get all my liquids in either. I am managing to get in between 50-64 ounces daily depending on when I get started and when I finish at nite. Are you drinking more than this and if so, are you chugging your drinks instead of sipping? If so, this might be why you're puking. Try slowing down and not to drink more than 8 oz per hour, this is about 2 oz per 15 minutes, this is what my dietician has told me. If you are already doing this and still puking, I would suggest calling your surgeon because if you are puking very often you can risk having your band slip. Keep me posted and hope things get better for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
